The first book

How come the first book I ever wrote, no matter how unpolished it is, is something I view as the best thing I have ever written? I was so hyped back then, as I wrote that fanfic. Did not even want to take breaks to eat, or shower.

And now that passion is gone. Writing has turned into a routine for me.

I think that is sad.

I'm not sure if you want an actual explanation or advice, or if you're just venting, but I'm gonna drop my two cents. Tell me if that isn't the case and I'll delete the comment.

Judging by your signature, you have written 25 stories here in SH in the span of 2 years and a half. I am not very familiar with AO3 but if I'm understanding correctly, you have written more than a hundred stories since 2016 on that site. Most of these are novella length. I did the math and that's basically a full-length book per month.

Most of these seem to also not really be connected in any way, self-contained stories and such.

What you're feeling is burnout, something every creative struggles with eventually. Creativity is like a battery. You can try to fill it by consuming media, and spending little of it by doing what you like, but eventually, you're going to have to let it recharge naturally.

My personal advice? Stop writing for a month or two. Let the ideas take root in your head. And when you come back, try to write something longer. Make it a trilogy, just to give you an example. Do some worldbuilding, plan long character arcs, etc. Give yourself time to get invested in what you're writing and the characters you designed. I don't think it is an issue of passion, clearly, you have it considering your body of work, i think it is an issue of investment.

Like I said, just my thoughts. I may be plain wrong, but i believe that is what's happening here.

Just a vent. I end up depressed when I skip a writing session. So not writing is not an option. But I guess I could write just 1k words per day for a while, and read more. Do you recommend any good comedy books on SH? This site has a very good ereader support.

I think our tastes might be too different for my usual recommendations so I'm gonna take a wild guess, say you enjoy BL and go from there. Haven't read that much in the genre, but people have good things to say about the comedy in I am an eggplant and Shameless Transmigration.

Wife, please stop running away too, but I can't confirm it. Too deep into the pipeline for me lmao

Hello,

I believe that you have run out of stories to tell. Whenever someone tells stories, those stories are practically excavated from the depth of one's soul as a mixture of conscious thoughts and subconscious thoughts, desires, etcetera. A process like this can't be continued forever without living your actual life and experiencing new things.

Get out of your comfort zone, go out and make a mess of yourself, experience some extreme shit. Last time I had such a problem, I went to a pub with a questionable reputation to play a few rounds of friendly poker and saw a drunk ass guy break the toilet door with his head. He broke the door off of its hinges, while I was sitting a meter away at a table drinking my beer. Then almost got pulled into a bar fight with a random fool and one of my friends who in retrospect is an even bigger idiot. And the guy who wanted to beat him was completely in the right. Of course I didn't know it at the time. Anyway, I got away from it and later heard that they actually beat up each-other and got thrown out, without me noticing it.

I got away unscathed from that crazy shit, only to get injured in my own backyard.

I am currently on my third week's leave after having a nasty fall in my backyard while packing a bunch of vintage paintings, attempting to put them away only to slip at the last possible second. Luckily, I successfully cushioned the fall with my face, since I was holding the damn thing in a death grip like a fool. My right ankle got the brunt of it, anyway. Contusions, ripped muscles and partially ripped tendons.

Now I have post traumatic stress whenever I see a frickin Gobelin painting.

And people complain that my stories are a kind of crazy... Man, only if they know. Life tends to give me more crazy shit than I could ever write.

Anyway, you get the gist of it.
