Avarice was living his life like he always did. He sat lazily on his sofa, with his laptop in his hands as he continued writing his novel in peace.
But it was rare for him to stay this leisurely at home, because this time was supposed to be his working hours.
The curtains of the room were closed tightly, as if the very thought of natural light entering his room felt dreadful to him. Yet the room was illuminated brightly by the room lights.
This was nothing new here, his room was always in this state—be it day or night.
Ring!!!!
Suddenly, his smartphone rang loudly, breaking the silence.
His indifferent expression twisted into an irritated one as he grabbed his phone lying on the edge of the sofa.
The call was from his sister.
He stared at his smartphone screen for a few moments before he picked up the call and brought it towards his ears.
Immediately, a shrill sound entered his ears and began tearing apart his brain.
"Brother! I just found out that there is a rumor going around in your neighborhood, that a vampire is secretly living in hiding in your house! Is it true?! Have you somehow turned into a vampire?! Or are you secretly sheltering one?!
They say that the curtains of your house are always closed tightly and they haven't seen anyone coming out from the house during the day.
Tell me the truth brother!"
Avarice made a perplexed expression after hearing his sister's blabbering.
Then with a tired sigh, he began silently clearing his throat.
Changing his voice into something mechanical and artificial, he spoke in an almost robotic tone.
"The number you have dialed is currently switched off. Please, try again later."
"Wai-"
Then he swiftly ended the call before his sister could say anything more.
Knock! Knock!
But just as he ended the call, he heard a loud knock on his door.
'What is with everyone? Can't they let me live in peace?
Who is it, anyways?'
He opened the door begrudgingly and saw a young man around his own age, smiling shamelessly at him.
This person was familiar to him. In fact, this was his one of the only two people he could describe as his friends.
This was Keyboard_Warrior_69.
'More like one of the two people who practically forced me to become their friends. Who needs friends, anyways?'
But of course, this was just his loner mentality trying to justify itself.
"Hay! Who said that ?!" He suddenly shouted as he looked at the ceiling.
"What the hell are shouting for?" Keyboard warrior asked in a voice containing perplexity, while looking at Avarice as if he was looking at a mental patient.
Avarice shook his head.
"It was nothing, why did you come here, anyways?"
"Oh, I just came cuz I was bored and thought it would be fun to chat with you.
So, did you watch One Punch Man Season 3? There is all this talk abut it being horrible, the internet is filled with it.
I watched it and it was soo horrible. The comments were filled with criticism. I too criticized the animators for creating this horrible season in the comments.
How can they create something so bad?
So, did you watch it?"
"I didn't watch it." Avarice replied indifferently.
"Why didn't you watch it?" Keyboard warrior asked in confusion.
Avarice's face scrunched up in irritation.
"I should be the one asking questions here. If you already knew that it was horrible, then why did you even watch it? And if you wanted to watch it anyways then why did you even criticize it afterwards? If you didn't want to watch something so horrible then you shouldn't have watched it in the first place. And why criticize afterwards if you knew full well that it was horrible yet still compromised watching it?
Wait, ...Don't tell me you have been infected."
His illogical behavior was one of the symptoms of Pikachu Virus.
Humans started turning into Pikachu monsters due to this virus. The people who have turned into Pikachu monsters begin to loose their ability to think logically and reasonably. And they begin to talk in a language that you can understand yet cannot logically comprehend at the same time.
Only other Pikachu monsters could understand this Pikachu language.
To fight against Pikachu Virus, Government and humanity joined hands to create a weapon. And this weapon is called Awareness.
Awareness can cleanse the Pikachu virus and turn a Pikachu monster back into human, with their reason and logic intact.
'I'm probably imagining things. There's no way that even Keyboard Warrior had fallen prey to the Pikachu virus.'
But for some reason, Avarice felt uneasy.
"I feel like I need some alone time for now. We will talk some other time."
"Wha-?"
And with that, Avarice pushed Keyboard Warrior out and elegantly closed the door.
He let out a breath, maybe out of relief or out of exhaustion as he stood motionlessly in front of the door for a few moments.
Then he sat back down on his sofa. Turning on his smartphone, he began browsing social media.
And immediately, a news caught his attention, practically covering his screen.
==============================
Shinpei Nagai, the director of One-Punch Man Season 3, deleted his social media accounts (Twitter/X) due to excessive hate, harassment, and "rage-baiting" from fans who were unhappy with the season's animation quality and felt he was misrepresenting the production struggles, significantly impacting his mental health and the work environment.
==============================
Avarice read the news and his indifferent expression twisted into confusion once again.
He began to analyze the information but could not reach a logical conclusion.
He concluded that he needed more information to make any logical conclusion, so he asked the internet.
*****************
Is One Punch Man Season 3 Director who deleted his account an artist or a manager?
Answer; Shinpei Nagai, the director of One Punch Man Season 3, is primarily an artist (animator/director)
Are the One Punch Man Anime Production Committee and JC staff studio both private organizations with profit motive?
Answer; Yes, both the One Punch Man anime production committee and the J.C.Staff studio are private, for-profit entities.
*****************
He analyzed the situation once again and understood the reason this had happened.
And the reason was of course, Pikachu virus and the Pikachu monsters.
'I can only feel pity for those people who turned into Pikachu monsters and lost their reason.'
He then threw his phone back at the edge of sofa and once again began writing his novel in leisure.
But as his thoughts wandered, another question surfaced in his mind.
'What's the point of creating a horrible anime season anyways?'
It wasn't about it being low quality or high quality. Avarice knew the deeper logic of how these things worked so he could look beyond things that restrained other people's understanding.
Things like AI, art, time and expectations were irrelevant in the matter.
And this situation wasn't limited to just One Punch Man. These situations happened with many different anime series.
Unlike other people, he knew exactly how an organization operated, so he could look beyond bias.
But that was also why his brain couldn't make sense of the situation. He tried multiple logical deductions from multiple angles but all deductions failed.
He concluded that he needed to confirm some facts.
'I might be making the wrong assumptions here.'
Then he once again used the internet to clarify his doubts, no matter how unreasonable they might have been.
'After all, it is better to assume you are wrong and confirm than assuming that you are correct and suffer for it.'
********************
If One Punch Man Season 3 was of sufficient quality that could compare to It's season 1 and 2, what would've been it's assumed production cost and assumed revenue generation power.
Answer; If One Punch Man Season 3 were produced with the high-end animation quality of Season 1 (Madhouse) and the narrative pacing of the Monster Association Arc, it would likely require a budget similar to top-tier modern shonen, while generating immense revenue through global streaming rights and merchandise.
Do animation studios have managers? And if so, then do those managers perform all managerial tasks like Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Controlling and Coordination, as well as Business Environment Forecasting?
Answer; Yes, animation studios have managers, and they are essential for bridging the gap between creative artistic visions and practical business constraints.
While they do not usually perform all of these tasks in isolation, they are collectively responsible for the core functions of Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Controlling, and Coordination.
********************
Avarice looked at the answers of his questions and once again felt perplexed.
'All my assumptions were completely correct. And now I feel embarrassed to even have such absurd doubts.'
He once again started to analyze the situation, he tried to remove his bias as much as he could. But again, he failed to arrive at any logical conclusion.
...And instead, his mind arrived at a completely different and dreadful conclusion.
'Cannot arrive at a logical conclusion, Pikachu monster mutation symptoms; loss of logical thought process. Absurd doubts may also be due to loss of logical thought process.
Most possible conclusion; Pikachu monster mutation.'
Avarice's felt goosebumps throughout his entire body as his thoughts reached this conclusion. He had essentially concluded that he had become a Pikachu monster, but the problem was that Pikachu monsters weren't even able to reach this conclusion.
'Am I-I... a mutant Pikachu monster?'
His thoughts became more and more dreadful and chilling the deeper he thought. Then he just turned off his brain as he slowly wiped the cold sweat forming on his forehead.
'Why should I care about that topic, anyways? It doesn't concern me, I should just focus on writing my novels.'
Then he went back to writing his novel in silence. Though he shivered from time to time.
Time continued to pass in silence as weeks flew by. Avarice continued to write his novel in silence in his home, all curtains still drawn tightly and lights still turned on during the day.
That was until another news began covering his internet feed.
======================
In the middle of this backlash, veteran animator Hashimoto shared his thoughts online, saying the anger aimed at the show should not be directed at the staff working on it. Posting on his Bluesky account, he wrote (via machine translation), “When it comes to One-Punch Man, the criticism from overseas viewers who are, frankly, watching it through illegal means is overwhelming. I think the people on the production floor are probably feeling really hurt. None of us are trying to make something poorly, we all share the same intention, yet we get attacked over tiny details. Where are our motivation and morale supposed to go?”
He continued, “I will say this clearly: in the coming weeks, something we put our hearts and souls into will be broadcast. If people call it trash or a slideshow, then there is nothing we can do, but we worked to the very limit. So please think about the creators behind the visuals. We are not doing this as volunteers, this is our job. The more we are bullied, the more staff will disappear. Without fail.”
======================
Avarice read this news and was analyzing it when-
Knock! Knock!
A knock was heard on his door after weeks.
He threw his phone on the bed began walking towards the door.
Opening it, Keyboard Warrior once again stood, smiling shamelessly.
Before Avarice could react in any way, Keyboard Warrior pushed him aside and practically bolted inside the house.
Then he firmly sat himself on the sofa, grabbing both armrests tightly.
His posture said; Try to push me out this time if you can, let's see who wins.
Avarice sighed in defeat then asked in a tired voice.
"What is it this time?"
"Did you see the news on internet, some animator completely unrelated to One Punch Man Season 3 is insulting us overseas fans for criticizing animators for that horrible season. If the animation is horrible then why shouldn't we criticize the animators?
And what's with this overseas discrimination? Do only Japanese fans have the right to criticize the animators? I watched the season legally with proper subscription so what does overseas have to do with it?"
Huff! huff!
Keyboard Warrior began panting after speaking out everything in a single breath.
Avarice looked at Keyboard Warrior coldly as he thought.
'As expected, he has been infected and is slowly loosing his reason.
I have to cleanse his Pikachu virus with the power of Awareness.'
"I did read the news. Based on my analysis, he is partially correct and partially wrong. Well 'wrong' would be incorrect, I think 'uninformed or misguided' would be the right word.
He is correct about that part about the bad season being not the animator's fault but I think he said the rest of the statement due to desperation and misinformation."
"What the hell are you talking about?! Anime is art! And if an art is horrible then we would obviously criticize the artist. How can that not be the animator's fault?"
"Well, you are technically correct but that's not how things work. Anime is art in definition and somewhat in practice too but the animator's aren't the major determinants of it's quality.
To make you understand, let's think of Anime as a product."
Keyboard Warrior's eyes suddenly began turning bloodshot as he shouted.
"What are you talking about! Anime is art! Everything is art! How can you categorize it as a product! You horrible person, do you have no morals?!"
Avarice shut his mouth and thought quietly.
'As expected, he can't be reasoned with. I should just compromise here a bit. I just have to somehow cleanse the Pikachu virus.'
"Let's assume that I am illiterate and don't know what art is, I can only think of anime as a product even though it's art. Since I'm illiterate, could you please lower yourself for a bit and shift your prospective to my illiterate one. You have to argue with me so you need to think from my illiterate point of view to understand me.
So for the sake of argument, let's only assume anime as a product."
"Okay, nothing can be done since you are illiterate. I should just lower myself as the more intelligent one." Keyboard Warrior said as he began calming down.
"Now, what do you think is an animation studio?" Avarice asked, his tone now light and containing hints of relief.
"Ummm... It's a group that produces the art called anime?" Replied Keyboard Warrior.
Avarice began explaining.
"Well, you are correct, but you have to think in a broader sense without bias. And the broadest definition would be an Organization(a group of people that work together for a single goal)."
"Well, that is pretty broad, I guess." Commented Keyboard Warrior.
"There are three types of organizations. Privet Organizations, Government Organizations and Community Welfare Organizations.
Leaving aside Government Organization. Animation studios would classify as Privet organization. If you don't understand why, then just ask Google.
But if you need an example, then Webnovel would be a privet organization while Scribble Hub and Royal Road would be Community Welfare Organizations.
And all Privet Organizations will have the same organizational goal-Profit."
"Yeah, so? What does this have to do with anything?" Keyboard warrior asked in confusion.
"So an animation studio creates anime for the purpose of profit. Now as for the definition of product, goods and services produced by an organization for the sake of profit is called a product. Product is sold in exchange for compensation. In animation studio's case, they are producing entertainment service in the form of anime for the purpose of revenue generation.
That animator said -" We are not doing this as volunteers, this is our job."- and he is correct.
Anime isn't produced by animators, it is produced by animation studio.
A product needs raw materials and personnel/employees in order to be produced. And in anime's case the raw materials are money, equipment and time and the employees/personnel are animators.
More Money and time + More animators = Better animation.
And the animators don't just gather under an animation studio, they are hired. The hired animators are given time and money by the animation studio and are asked to create the anime and are given compensation in exchange for their animation skills. So hiring animators also requires money.
The animators have limited time, resources, and numbers. They have to do their best in production of anime using these resources. The animation quality will depend on all these factors. So the one to blame aren't the animator employees who created the anime under the limit of time, budget and hands. The blame should go to the animation studio that hired less animators, provided less budget, and gave less time."
Keyboard Warrior remained silent for a few moments and the asked in a questioning tone that also contained slight confusion.
"Are you saying that the animators themselves can't have any hand in bad quality of animation? That doesn't sound right."
"The animators can have a hand in quality but it wouldn't be on this scale. Think about it, if a horrible animation scene can be fixed by fans themselves then the animators most likely have the ability to fix it too, because they are animators, after all. If the scene is still in the anime then that means that the animators weren't able to fix it due to some limitation.
And why would animators do a horrible job if they knew they will be criticized and care about criticism. They were most likely doing their best based on the limited resources and time they were provided."
"This product and profit talk is making me feel like shit. Does that mean all anime are just made for the sake of profit?" Keyboard Warrior grunted.
"Well, that isn't the case. There are two cases where the anime isn't made solely for profit.
The first case would be when an artist goes to an animation studio and asks that studio to animate their work. In this case, the resources and time is dependent on the artist. They bear the risks and provide resources and time. Everything is dependent on the artist here and whether the artist has solely profit motive or art creation motive also depends on them. The revenue generated from the anime will also mostly go back to the artist. The animation studio will just become a platform in this situation that is being paid to create anime.
The second situation would be when animators gather together under a community welfare organization in order to create an anime. They raise charity funds that are met by fans. In this case, everything about the anime depends on the community itself and this is where the animators really deserve criticism unless the charity funds weren't met.
Well, there is also fan animations but they are mostly limited by resources too so they can only create small scenes."
"Hummmm.... HUMMMMM..... Huuuummmmmm? Um-hum, I think I understand everything." Keyboard Warrior said with a lost look on his face.
"Thank god that you finally understand, Keyboard Warrior." Avarice said, and then thought.
'Did that cleanse his Pikachu virus. Thank god, now we can actually have reasonable talk.'
He hesitated for a bit, but then finally began to speak.
"Actually, there is something that I don't understand either.
What's the point of an animation studio creating bad season?"
Keyboard Warrior's eyes once again turned bloodshot. He even stood up from the sofa that he was so firmly sitting on and shouted.
"I think you just insulted all the low budget anime that exist and all those who created those anime!!! Are you saying that low budget anime should just stop being produced?! As expected, you have no morals!"
'Seems that the Pikachu virus is still there after all.' Thought Avarice, his expression turning pitying as he looked at Keyboard Warrior.
"What I'm trying to say is this:-
Animation studios create anime for the purpose of profit. If an anime has the potential to generate revenue then they will create it and invest resources in continuing it.
Take Webnovel for example. They will only contract your work and allow it to be monetized on their platform if that work can generate profit on Webnovel. The more your novel generates profit, the more they will invest in your novel. This is the expected behavior of a privet organization.
The ones who do these things and makes important decisions related to the organization are Managers.
They have the following responsibilities and tasks in an Organization; Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Directing, Controlling and coordination. Google the explanations to gain a basic understanding. This is how all organizations operate.
There are also various above basic level managerial responsibilities like Business environment forecasting, budgeting, yada yada yada.
If the animation studios have managers and those managers aren't Pikachu monsters then they should have calculated how much revenue generating power One Punch Man Season 3 can have. They should have also calculated the time and money needed as well as the animators needed to create a season with maximum Profit generating power. Then they should have gathered the money and adjusted the time during planning process.
Resources are infinite(in a definition sense, not literally) they can be gathered and arranged as long as the profits exceed the resources allocated. And One Punch Man Season 3 had absurd revenue generation power if it was of sufficient quality. Then why wouldn't the managers give it the resources needed?
The only situation this could make sense is when the managers are all Pikachu monsters. But why would an organization keep Pikachu monsters as managers if they Can't even do what they are supposed to do as managers. If I couldn't do the job that was expected of me then my organization will fire me too and will hire someone who actually could. Privet organizations only allow people who are competent to remain as a part of their organization so the logic that managers are incompetent doesn't work here either.
I just can't understand it no matter what logic I apply here. Why would One Punch Man Season 3 be horrible when everyone has every reason for it to be good. I can find no one who will actually benefit from a horrible One Punch Man Season 3, aside from the competitors, of course.
So the question is, why is the One Punch Man Season 3 actually horrible?"
Keyboard Warrior silently stared at Avarice in confusion after the the explanation ended. The house turned silent as both continued to stare at each other.
Avarice kept looking at Keyboard Warrior with an expectant face while Keyboard Warrior continued to stare at Avarice blankly in confusion.
Then suddenly, Keyboard Warrior's eyes once again turned bloodshot. His confused expression instantly changed into a face full of seething rage as he shouted.
"I don't know what you are talking about but you have no morals!!! I think you have just insulted someone!! I don't know who you have insulted but you have insulted someone!!! How do you even have good dreams during night when your soul is so pitch black and twisted?!!
People like you should be wiped away from society!!!!
Avarice became still, his face unreadable. His eyes remained detached yet they continued to loose their light.
Then he let out a tired sigh as he thought.
'As expected, Pikachu Monsters can't be reasoned with.'
......To be continued.
Author's note: What? do you want a cover for this too? here, take this;
Happy now?
