Summer sucks, we should abolish it

There was once a time I didn't have air conditioning. I resorting to buying this.

I thought it was going to be a replacement air conditioner. NOPE! It's a piece of junk! The so-called "secret" of it's cooling power is that there's this filter inside the box. You fill the top with water and it spritzes the filter, keeping it cool. There's a fan in the back of the unit where the air gets cooled by the filter. The failure of this is that there is nothing keeping the filter itself cool. There's no like freezing gel that keeps it cool for hours, it's just sponges. Even if you freeze the filter before use and pour ice cold water on top and fill it with bits of ice (there's not much room), you only get 20 minutes before it becomes a standard fan.

But I found a solution to it.

Get something to put in the freezer (I used an 8 quart square container) and fill the bottom with water. Just the bottom, enough to make a thick ice block. You can fill it up to halfway as long as you have plenty of empty space. Freeze that water until it becomes a block of ice. Remove it and fill the rest with ice-cold water. Add ice cubes for extra chill.

Before using the unit, freeze the filter. When ready to use the unit, pull out the filter and get that 20 minutes of chill. Once the filter defrost and the air is now circulating, take out the filter and dip it into the ice water. Leave it there for 10 seconds. Pull it out and place it back into the unit. You now have 10 more minutes of cool air. Once that defrosts, repeat dipping it in the ice water.

This method lasted me for 6 hours, enough for the night time to come and finally cool things down enough to use my big fan. I actually bought a second filter so that I can just replace the filter immediately, but I didn't have a chance to use it because by that point, I got an air conditioner. But before I had that AC, that method worked well for me. It's not the best, but when you have nothing and the sun is murdering you, you're willing to put up with anything as long as it cools you.

That's known as evaporative cooling. It is effective, but you need something much larger to really work properly.

Working your freezer harder will make more heat in your house, but if you're making the ice at night, I could see it as a viable method. It still takes a lot of energy to make the ice, though.

I meant summer itself, the break will obviously stay. And i completely agree with your logic on winter being better because i always use that same one whenever i start bitching about how winter is so much better than summer

If you listen closely, you'll find that your refrigerator does not run 24/7. It turns on for short bursts as needed.

Yeah I can actually feel that. Both winter and fall involve labor though(more so during winter, obviously, unless you live like me in the middle of a fucking forest that surrounds only my house in well developed suburbs, cause why the fuck not?) but I still prefer winter just cause the absence of bugs and my allergies(environmental, like all of them) don't bother me like, at all. Spring is nice but, as is the same with fall, my allergies are worse. So, although I like the more comfortable temperatures(though still prefer it on the chillier side) winter is still my go-to, plus i can always just wear more clothes if it gets too cold, though I do keep my A/C in my room on year round at this point so I have no right to complain lol

My room(which as i stated before i share with my fat ass brother) is either the coldest in the house or the hottest, so its either (45ish F) 7 degrees or (90ish F)32 degrees. However we'd rather it be eternally freezing than deal with the temperature suddenly going from feeling like it's freezing to sweltering, so the A/C stays on.

Though that's a more recent thing cause in past years our parents would make us take them out during the winter which sucked cause more bugs came in through our ripped... What the fuck are they called? The nets behind the window. I can't fucking remember lmao. Anyways they're ripped so a shit ton of bugs come in through them. It sucks.

• Now that the Sun is gone, summer will naturally be too! And best of all...
• It's free and completely legal.

You make a strong argument. However, on another of my problems, who's to say i won't start to like humans by that time? I'd rather kill them all now than wait for them possibly become something likeable... Disgusting creatures they are.

I have mixed opinions about this. I usually end with having itchiness on my feet during winters. which sucks and I hate them. But i h=dont like summers either. Tons of mosquitos annoying you when you try to sleep, hot as fuck, and overall shit

but other than that Winters all the way
I have a plan to abolish summers. Lets steal all the refrigerators in the world and open them all facing earth. it will take a few years but its worth it
