FOR THE MODS: please consider this to be an educational thread. Not one for political discourse. Don't delete please xx

FOR OTHERS: for the sake of the thread, please be civil.

FOR @Anon2023 okay I officially feel like you're trolling but I will still try to lay some ground rules before I get into searching more serious answers. I will not be talking Venezuela because this will at least double the efforts into this stupid and pointless internet discussion and I do not have that kind of time, but I will do my research on DPRK because
1) I am personally interested in knowing more about it
2) I'm stubborn and my obstinate brain will not let me go till I am sufficiently done with it.

Do note that the answer will arrive in several days.
Poverty doesn’t mean starvation, that’s what someone else said not me.
It was you who mentioned arable land for whatever reason however. Anyway, let's consider that we have established DPRK doesn't starve its citizens
Terrible leadership? Countries that don’t prosper despite having resources have terrible leadership.
can I get a facepalm emoji?

Good enough.

Let's put aside talking about colonialism and imagine that you mean "countries with a planned economy" for now, since we are discussing centralized planned economies and talking about "countries not prospering despite terrible leadership" in places where the government does not have the ability to control its economy to the same extent makes no sense.

Since real life is not minecraft and one country of small size, such as DPRK, will not be able to produce everything by itself, I believe it is reasonable to consider its inherent industrial restrictions as well as its restrictions on its ability to trade.

Because prosperity is one hell of a vague word, let's put some ground rules on that too, otherwiseone could give very bizarre ideas about what makes a country "prosperous".
These restrictions are subject to change - I am writing them up on the fly after all - but here they are
1) No measure of GDP. Monetary measures do not work well in socialist countries.
2) No talking about very high-tech stuff like CPU's and other chips and their availability.
3) No talking about trade

2 and 3 obviously put DPRK into an unfair position because of international sanctions against it by many world organisations and individual governments.

DPRK has plenty of coal which is a “fossil fuel” doesn’t let it’s people think freely (hence horrible progress in technology and education) and literally brainwashed people to think a specific way.
I will look into the industry of DPRK, as for "brainwashing". Where do I begin? Ideological education is a very normal thing that is done in literally every country and it's such a delicate topic that I will probably skim over it, because the way you put it makes me feel like you don't really know what they teach in DPRK anyway.
If those facts aren’t part of your sources then we can just agree to disagree and move on, since it’s not really a discussion if we have that much fundamental difference in what we see as fact.
Did you just put your opinions, called them facts and... sigh. Can we put a facepalm sticker here again?

Thank you.
Iceland and Singapore despite lack of resources can still prosper.
I am sure there is a can of worms lying right in front of me and as much as I want to kick it over, I will probably just link you to some youtube video about them or whatever.
Singapore is Democratic but has a very centralized government, it is one of the few examples of a central planned economy that works.
I will try to get to that.

Anyway, I will go start researching, or maybe not. I am kinda hungry. Whatever, the answers will be ready in some days.

@TrashyHuman I don’t plan to continue this discussion. We are too fundamentally different to even have a discussion.

It will neither be educational nor will it even be fun, since as you’ve pointed out that we probably would have to agree to the meaning of words first such as “prosperity” “leadership” I think it’s far more effort than it’s worth.

Im just going to agree to disagree, and I’m not trolling, most of what I said is based on assumptions of a specific worldview which I guess you don’t share.

Have a nice day though, you’re still cool in my book.

What the hell is going on here. All countries suck in one way or another. Some just suck more than others. My personal belief is that Sealand is the only perfect country because it has less than ten people living there and doesn't get involved with any wars or world politics.
