Standalone short stories

Is there a place for them here? Everything seems to be geared towards very long web novels with many chapters, so I thought I'd check. Ta

I can't speak for audiences, but there's a tag for it so people can search for it.

If you have a lot of short stories, bundle them up in one collection and post it that way. You can post oneshots, but it will never get the audience, because the platform is for long running series

Nothing stops you from posting them. You would not be the first, nor the last. You probably won't get as many readers as long-running series, but SH does allow them and has the corresponding tags (Oneshot/Short Story).

This is because the vast majority of readers find your story through the Latest Updates section, and short stories, having only a handful of chapters (or even a single chapter) are restricted to the very limited time window to be visible there. More chapters you have, higher the chance that the random user could spot your story in that list. Additionally, monetized web novels are essentially a subscription service, there is the incentive to make them endless.

Because you can't legally give them away. An exchange of money is always required. Union rules, unfortunately.

I'd say there is still an audience for them, albeit smaller. I would find a way to collect them together and label them as short stories in your signature, similarly to how I have done for mine under "Excess Works." Helps with expectations a bit.
