I was going to write sci-fi because I don't really know science stuff (thats why I write historicals lol) but THEN I remembered that mysteries exists.

Writing a good mystery is so impossibly hard, between all the red herrings, false leads, character stereotypes, etc. It's probably why Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie are so well remembered

Plausible sci-fi: especially space exploration, requires a lot of research and at least a basic understanding of physics and other mathematical subjects.

True crime: requires knowledge of laws and legal procedures.
Am reading a novel about a forensic doctor, the amount of knowledge in that book is staggering.... writing about all the things you can imagine involving solving cases etc is hard.
Sci-fi

Not only you have to make sht up. You also have to make it make sense from a scientific perspective.
Whatever i read about sci-fi that's the impression i get,you especially have to hook up the readers with those things involving space, exploration etc.

Yeah mystery is way hard trying to keep everything together.

Mythos.

If you want to BS me with chinese, roman and greek gods, make sure it is 99% fun truth with 1% of the author's cringeshit.

Kind of why I hated SH works with mythos. If you want to write a fucky porno and want to make it more pompous, don't just throw in some fancyass god name and say "oh look, the garbo porno has plot because god"

Very biased on my side also, body tempering/ cultivation jargos that sounds awesome even if they are complete hogwash when one pauses to think. Don't say qi training (练气) while meditating on the lotus postion (打坐), say you are sitting with five hearts towards the heavens (五心朝天) and absorbing in cosmic energy (吐纳元气).

Fyi, five hearts towards the heavens is lotus position and absorbing cosmic energy is qi training. Synonyms are fantastic if you can make it sound more complex than it is.

Not really, as a somewhat true crime fan I know that such a thing is not important if you get the basics right.
You don't even need really sociology or psychology knowledge because you can just say it was a sociopath/psychopath. Take this with a grain of salt because I developed a distrust with most of the genre.

Horror
Writing scary thinghs is hard, yes everybody can write brutal stuff on a cosmic to neighborhood level, but that won't be scary if you can't control the emotions of the audience. Romance/Comedy rely too on emotionally controlling the audience, but it is far easier to make somebody laugh than giving them existential dread.
Horror is about nothing but emotions.

Well most Cultivation are hogwash maybe that's why they attract readers with that bullshit which you know ain't real it mushed jargos.

I agree with you,it easy atleast to write brutal scenes in horror but writing about scary, tense and thrilling scenes is hard.

I can't feel the dread of horror in a fictional setting. That is why I can't tell what others might experience as something scary or dreadful either. There have been occasions when I wrote a normal story and people told me something was apparently scary, but on purpose? Not possible.
And I believe, as Horror movies are those that are just really accepted to be mostly films you go to in order to laugh at them, that creating an atmoshpere in a fictional setting that grips you and lets you feel an emotion that should be easier on film, with music and motion pictures and yet is still hard, is extremely trying.

Horror
Mythos
Medical

Detective

1+2) Same reasons as people cited above.

3) Medical : bc the few good novels of this subgenre i read, were all authors from INSIDE the profession-class (intern/nurse/etc) AND/OR had access to true medical database or seeing real patients

4) Detective
need good brain or to often check real cases or both, also it will attract the hardcore readers of it, like Warhammer hardcore-lvl of hardcore, that will try to guess the murderer before the criminal is revealed. Finally its easy to be pointed out if good or bad.

Sci-fi(if realistic then it requires a lot of prior knowledge about the subjects of science they are using in their fiction)

Historical-fiction(if realistic, requires a lot of knowledge and study about the Era, nation(s), and culture(s) that they are writing about)

True crime/crime-fiction(requires an understanding of law and crime to actually pull of well)

Romance(requires a good understanding of people, interpersonal connections, and love which can be hard for most authors)

High fantasy(requires imagination and extreme OCD)

Military fiction/fantasy(requires an in depth understanding of Sid Meyer's Civilization game play and military planning)

I believe isekai is getting difficult to write about. It is hard to find that sweet spot anymore, considering how much they flooded the market. I tried to take the creative approach and isekaid an OP house cat and look where did that led me... very poor stars...

Depends on the writer. Some focus on genres they know well because they work in or adjacent to that field and stuff that would be hard for most of us is second nature to them - mystery, suspense, medical drama, etc. A huge challenge to the layperson, minimal effort for the ex-cop, former spy, or vacationing doctor.
For ME the hardest to write is straight-up romance. Always want to toss in something supernatural or fantastical into the mix.
