When I was just drafting my main series, it was before I was posting anything, not editing anything and only working on one series… that averaged 50k words a wek, but the AI wrote about 50% of the words and made my own writing much faster. Basically never got stuck, “pantsed” it all the way. I also wasn’t working a full-time job during those weeks.

Now I’m editing and posting those chapters, plus working on side series. Some weeks I can’t do much except edit and post, mostly due to being busy with other things (full-time day job). Other weeks I’m drafting 6-10k words per week instead of per day, and the AI ratio is about 40% machine to 60% human.
AI writing? How does that work? You ask it to write you a chapter with an outline or something?

Nope, that only works with “instruct model” AIs like ChatGPT.

The model I use (NovelAI) requires the human user to write some text, then the AI continues what was written, like finishing a sentence or writing the next sentence. I find the easiest way to write with it is to write a few sentences, then it writes some, maybe I edit what it wrote a bit or cut its sentence in half and ask it to finish the sentence a different way, then I write some more if I have a strong idea, etc. Like playing ping-pong with the story.

Well, 20,000-25,000 a week seems my average. It's usually not below 15k, but sometimes it can hit 40k when I get to a sequence I really want to write

I'm an impulsive writer, and hardly ever keep a steady writing schedule. It's 100% of the time a "oh, this sounds nice" hits me, subsequently making me write 5-6 chaps a day about said idea.

Then again, there are also times when I hardly ever write, lol. I consider it a balance.

About 1k words to 3k words a week. Varies depending on life.

I used to be able to hit 50k a week, but since I haven't written in nearly a year, it's fallen down to only 20k :blob_teary:

I'm currently aiming for around 2,000 words a day, every weekday with the weekends reserved for editing and cleanup.
