My dragons are little and cute and like chasing birds and building sandcastles and baking cookies. And also! Some of them are fluffy. So there.Dragons. Nobody ever writes them interesting.
I think elves are kind of boring, at least in Asian fiction. They're all written pretty much the same. The other classic fantasy races are, too, but the elves are probably the most common and, in my opinion, the most annoying.
I like using traditional fantasy creatures with some kind of added twist (like making dragons friendly and cat-sized), so most of mine aren't that mysterious. Revenants are one that's portrayed as sort of mysterious in the story, though. They're spectral creatures who eat magic. They don't have a physical body of their own, but they possess the corpses of other magical creatures, which they use as both a shelter (like a hermit crab) and a disguise in order to get close to living members of that species so they can find food. They're mainly scavengers, so they eat things like shed scales or feathers that have some magic power in them. But they'll also kill and eat young or weak magic creatures if they get the chance. They can absorb some of the memories of the creatures whose bodies they possess, which helps with their disguise, but the more memories they take in, the more unstable their personalities become. If it gets too bad, they can even forget that they're revenants, which usually leads to them either starving because they stop eating magic or blowing their cover and getting killed by the creatures they're trying to live with.
