Is racism a default?

I didn't put it in the title cause I'm scared...

It doesn't have to be purely racism it could be something similar but still the same concept and has the same impact.

Cause i know mine has one...

Please don't come after me :s_eek:. It was a question lingering in my mind.

If you're afraid to write fiction solely for the fear of writing a racist narrative (which is the conflict of fiction, not the moral of fiction), then you'd better keep your hand off the pen or keyboard. The world of fiction is more brutal than just racism. There are giant, building-high, man-eating monsters that make people applaud instead of questioning whether this is cannibalism?

Not really sure what you're saying but, you can have stories with discrimination or some racism, long as it isn't glorified or anything.
But if you're using like, hard real slurs and such, I mean, good luck. lmao

I think portraying themes related to prejudice in general, especially with a critical tone, can be really powerful, the writer needs to be someone who’s aware, informed, and sensitive to the topic, because there are lived experiences that only some people go through and others don’t.

For example, I’ve seen many stories across different sites that include misogynistic discourse, some writers use it intentionally to criticize those discourse and to help build the plot and develop the narrative, others, though, seem to just reproduce and reinforce misogyny, treating it as something normal or harmless.

So if you’re thinking about addressing social issues, it’s important to do your research, understand the lived experiences of the people affected by the issue you want to portray, and handle it with care.

Yeah, my characters, besides the protag, are all former slaves. In fact, the "bad guys" routinely say awful somewhat racist stuff. But it is "fantasy" racism, not real world racism

Racism is non existent. Note: race would mean superficial differences inside a species, such as skin color amongst humans. Elves are not a race, they are a species.

speciesism is pretty rare too.

Somewhat less rare is pure-blood bigotry, i.e. looking down at half-elves or such, but not looking down at humans or elves. Though you still have to be pretty determined to be a bigot for that too.

I mean, the most powerful god is a dragon, and the next two most powerful gods are kitsune goddesses of the sun/day and moon/night, and they each have a child by the dragon god, who are powerful gods in their own right. It's pretty hard to claim divine backing of the idea that mixing bloodlines is bad.

But, well, people are idiots and sometimes evil, so there are indeed blood purity bigots, and they are an antagonistic force.

If your story deals at all with the real world, unless you manage to keep it to some isolated island or some other highly insular place, you will have something that will at least be seen by some as some ism at some point.

From the moment when you make your story, is racism already part of your story? That's what i mean by default...
