Smut writers, how do you do it?

No seriously, how?!

Been an avid smut lover, and since I wanted something to jog up my writing while not being a serious work, I decided to try my hand at smut.

Well. I deleted the story two chapters in.

Setting the tone, creating the atmosphere, it was going well, until it was about time to get down and dirty, and suddenly my finger joints turned stiff and creaky(if that's a word) like I hadn't oiled them years.

At first it was the shame that there was an invisible gaze watching me from high above. And when I resolved that by watching a few YouTube videos on how to get comfortable, it was suddenly about the fact that I was just cringing, and found myself wandering off because it was literally just two people wanting to fuck, no emotions, no proper build-up, nothing.

Then I suddenly realized how hard it was to write smut, and how much harder it was for it to be brainless smut. I don't know if it's a me thing though, that's why I want to hear your opinions.

If you write smut, accept my dogeza, senior.?

And if you write brainless smut? 9 kowtows for you Ancestor!?????????

Having IRL experience helps. Realizing irl experience doesn't help. Crying, then saying fuck it, the reader is only using one hand, and most of their blood is in their southern regions anyways... thus their brains are firing on all cylinders.

How do smut writers do it? Either with one hand on the keyboard and one ... somewhere else, or with a partner and having to stop frequently due to said partner...

If most smut writers(especially AO3 folks) actually had irl partners, then I think the amount of unrealistic, hentai-physics levels of smut would actually be lower than they are.:sweating_profusely:

Hence why I listed that as the second option...

Though from what I've heard, a lot of smut writers start out writing private erotica for an SO ... and discover that they enjoy the smut more than the partner (have even heard this alleged of Laurel K. Hamilton, which was why her Anita Blake books went from almost family friendly to flat-out X-rated by book four, and when her real life relationship began suffering for it, around book 10 or 11, she dialed it back down to about book 3 levels)

Getting NTR'd by fictional characters? Dayum, I don't even know what to say.

I know it can be hard to type out words, but I imagine like every other activity, with enough practice you'll adapt to typing by only one hand.
Seems I've gotta level up my [Ambidextrous] skill then.

Sorry slimes, it's for the greater good.

honestly, read smut and play erotic games. Amanda Clover is a great example, and i like her writing style. Play Corruption of Champions 2 on steam as well, text based adventure with lots of adult content. Also, if you're ok with trying AI, novelai will get naughty if you want while writing scenes.

Thanks, I think I might have rushed towards the gratifying scene without creating any emotional motive or buildup.

Things will probably flow smoothly when I decide to involve characters with an actual story to tell.

yeah, just think about a normal scene, don't rush into it, and also don't spend way too much time into it. Feel free to tease the audience as well, you don't have to be overly gratuitous. fading to black, letting the audience's imagination do the work, can be an effective tactic, especially when starting out. Also try not to delve into smut for smuts sake; i prefer there to be an actual story that the smut supports rather than the other way around.

Also, this may be petty but try to think of a good title for the story. Something that cleverly gets the message across without being too on the nose.

In my case, its mood. When the story naturally presents the mood. Can't explain... it is weird because, for me, writing is like immersing myself in a different thought process, like watching a film and not thinking about writing itself.

True, my motives probably weren't enough to sustain my interest in the story.

Respect.

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head, I wasn't able to immerse myself and was just wandering off in the story. I'll probably have to write something I'm sufficiently invested in when I decide to write.
