To be upfront this is an american centric post but I'm interested in all available & relevant thoughts.
So North Carolina has a very similar climate to Japan according to the handy dandy google search, would it be a good idea to try and build traditional Japanese houses in that state? Why or why not?

Japan ... It is not necessarily an apt comparison. Japan extends far. In the north, there is freezing cold. In the south, there is scorching heat.
