Writing Side stories / stories in the same universe?

I got a little stuck on my main story so I quickly wrote a short story in the same universe, but with no connection to the main story's characters.

Should I...
a) interrupt the main story to put the side story in as a bonus, even though it's not connected? (Downside, the main story is only 13% done.)
b) wait to do this until the main story is mostly done, during an interlude, or completely done
c) publish it as a new very short "series" connected to the main story even though it's only a 5000-word story (I guess it could be split in two or three parts)

Not sure what the right thing to do is in terms of "series etiquette."

I think you should keep seperate things separate. You can link stories together as series or related on this site i think.

Make a separate series and link to it in the author note at the bottom of your main series chapters so people know it exists if they want to read more.

What if I want to write short omakes? Not a full side series? Should I just put them at the end of the chapter?

Doesn't need to be a full side series, it's just a dumping ground for anything that isn't the main story.

Yeah I ended up just doing a short 2-parter. I guess longer than an omake (it was 5500 words or so) but I don't think it would have worked at the end of a chapter. I might do more, at the risk of cluttering Scribble Hub with 1-to-4 chapter Completed series, and just link them all in a list from the main series. So far nobody has demanded that the side series continue, which is what I was afraid of (plot-wise I definitely can't merge them for at least 60-70 chapters)
