First...Community agrees to competition(cause is not doing it)
Then we approach staff Zinless or someone else
Then staff speaks to other staffs
Competition is now in mind...Then People start looking for sponsors
We get sponsor and decide the terms and conditions for competition..
Competition is now decided...Then advertised
People get interested and start tagging either their old work or write new work
People who fulfill the criteria are considered by judges
Then just make a list
Community votes their favourite on the list
The works and authors are ranked and the prizes are distributed
So far, that feels like it is built on vibes.
First, define the contest. Then we can present a clear proposal and gauge the interest with a poll and see who signs up.
Next up is establishing a clear concept of the contest. We can work on the format, then figure out the timelines. If we can get that far, then the judging structure can be discussed. As for the prizes? Exposure has been the biggest wishlist for everybody here. Maybe if Tony can be contacted, the winner gets their winning novel placed in the sidebar at Novel Updates since that place would be getting more traffic now. But Tony is busy, that means we still have to negotiate on who is responsible for what.
What that means now for us is that there needs to be a designated organizer, and somebody willing to be a clear financial handler too. Let's not forget writing a breakdown on how these prizes are obtained and there absolutely must be a contingency plan involved in this.
Now when negotiating, it must be transparent what is being sponsored and everything that is gonna receive exposure from this contest. I wouldn't serve a penny before knowing what I'm supposedly funding, so that's why I wouldn't expect more from another person. And they need a level of authority over this too; giving control to someone who is financing this is common courtesy.
Speaking of control, the reviewers who are judging might need to remain anonymous for the purpose of keeping things fair. Whenever we have a submission window, those reviewers have a period of time to vote, but we haven't even decided when the announcement date of this contest happens. There is a lot to be considered here.
Like... shit, what's the word count limit? Are new novels the only ones permitted or can old ones join in? Actually, is one entry per writer going to be the cap or is this gonna be a free for all? And on the topic of chaos, what about content restrictions and what counts as disqualifications?
Really, there is a lot here to mull over in our heads before we go grabbing someone and telling them that this is happening.
