Should There Be A Novel Promo Mega Thread?

I guess if that would help? It does feel weird when I see the discussion threads and they are just self-promos.

The once a month promotion could work if enough people view it and make use of it, but a person who wants to promote might still think an individual thread for themselves is better (even though that's not really true). And personally, rather than scrolling through a promotion thread and seeing 100 novels I have absolutely no interest in, I would probably just go and filter search novels on the hub.

yeah I don't think promotion on the scribb forums is that useful. You'd rather promote in the places that are specifically into what you're writing than make a thread to an audience of very varied profiles.
(though I say that but I still do the signature thing.)

My thoughts exactly. It seems like a good idea in theory, but I'm not sure how well it would work in practice.

You know what I think would be great? A thread for promoting the novels of OTHER writers. Of course everyone's going to want to get themselves noticed, so they're biased. What's REALLY a great endorsement of someone's series is if they are promoted by someone else.

This is when you have 2 or more people endorse each other's novels, which is basically the same thing.

I've seen a lot of self-promo threads going around, plus there are also other threads that disguise themselves as feedback but are actually just shameless self-promo. I think it's better if we have one mega thread (one per month or something) where people get to prom
I dunno, it feels kinda pointless? I mean... I wouldn't ever check those tbh... >.>

That's counter-productive. It's just gonna become the one thread we actively avoid. Even if it's stickied it'll just end up as an eyesore and a literal meme for whoever uses it.

Yeah, I really find the concept of a self-promo thread pointless. All you really gotta do is put a link in your sig like I and a lot of other authors here do, and then let that be the end of it. For the rest, you just relate to others as a smart, interesting, informed, and likable person and maybe some people will glance down to your sig and notice you've got your own novel and decide that, since you're such a nice person, maybe you've written something good. If not, at least worth giving you a chance.

Yeah, a thread actually dedicated to self-promo is entirely pointless because nobody looks at it anyway. The promo in the sig, especially one that as unintrusive and short as possible (keeping it to just 1 line if it can be done) is really the most reasonable way to self-promote and then just let that be the end of it. Don't go out of your way to promote your novel beyond that. It's just annoying.

The harsh truth is, a lot of people are just not as good at writing as they think and it's the worst writers who crow the loudest about their own books due to the fact that their writing just doesn't have the power to attract readers by it's own merits, which means the lower quality writers try to make up for their lack of a draw with just talking about it loudly. Everyone knows this is how it works, even if they don't express it out loud, so that's why nobody is going to be interested in someone else's biased self promotion.

That's the way, would be an amazingly wholesome thread if people could follow through, but you know there's just going to be people taking advantage.
