I recently finished the first arc in my story, but for some reason it ended up being only a little more than 25,000 words. And despite the small word count I surprisingly don't feel that I rushed it. Is that normal?

-A start.
-A dialogue
-An accident
-A clash
-A friend
-An encounter
-A dialogue
-A fight
-Another dialogue
-Another point of view
-A climax
-An end
<Well, and a new beginning.>

You decide how long it is and if it covered what you wanted. Shorter, longer, doesn't matter as long as it fits the flow and pace you assumed. Don't stick to some templates literally to the bone or you'll start struggling at some point when you feel limited by the constraints you pushed onto yourself. That said, don't ignore them completely. Build your own, slowly, with time and your writing development.

A Novel is considered about 90,000 words so 25k isn't huge, it sounds more like the first act of a book than a full arc honestly, but then japanese light novel volumes can be very short and I guess those could be considered arcs. It depends.

No need to worry if you rush it or anything. If you feel like you didn't, then you didn't. (Terrible advice)

I wouldnt say 25k is actually too bad. I would say that the best arc Ive ever written was around 10k.I have made arcs that are up to 140k words, but I felt that the writing in this 10k one was just very good so I think its my best

Just write the way you're comfortable. While others opinions are good, it's your story to decide what you're gonna do.
While my first arc ended wit 80k, the second will propably be twice as much. Just have much more content planned :blob_blank:

Thank you guys for sharing your opinions. That was interesting. I am planning on making the story a series of short arcs each of them starting with a beginning and then ending with a conclusion. With the MC gaining or losing something in each arc or maybe both. Hope that works. Well then later.

The first arc in my story, which hasn't actually been fully posted yet, isn't anywhere near 25,000 words, probably closer to 10,000 or something. I've written a couple of arcs after that, and the one which I'm currently writing is a fair bit longer, but I'm not planning on having any really long arcs in this story.. Honestly, just as the person above me said, write what works for you. Try not to get bogged down worrying about things like word count :s_smile:.

Honestly, I don't think it matters at all how long your story arcs are unless you feel like it's incomplete. If it doesn't feel like it's rushed to you, then it probably isn't. Besides, I don't think anyone will care too much about how long your arcs are either. I doubt there will be any readers who will decide to drop your story because they think a story arc is too short. I'd say just keep doing what you're doing if it feels right to you.
