I believe multiple chapters, especially @MatchaChocolate69 , contradict this. Definitely not backwards at least, and Matcha tends to feel pain, which wouldn't make sense with time travel forward.

My chapters are not a reliable source; the POV is Matcha's.
He experiences what happens from his viewpoint, and it could be that other students experience it differently. After every game over, he comes back to life. Along with Danny, he has experienced this more than anyone else. In his specific case, he remembers every death and every respawn. Not just within the chapters, but also on the pages of this thread.
These sufferings are etched into his soul. It might also be that each death generates a new timeline, but I'm not sure about this. I only know that he remembers every death from any timeline, even those that haven't occurred, like with Seymour.

@MatchaChocolate69 is Lust

Wouldn't CupcakeNinja or Luoir be a more suitable candidate for lust?

I had a friend who once ran a game where Lust was similar to Greed. The only difference is while greed is the accumulation of wealth for wealth's sake, Lust had an obssession with aesthetic. So it would only take "beautiful" and disdain "ugly" things. The horny demons are just a single aspect of it.

There are definitely a lot of fun interpretatios of lust... but this iiiiis SH, so it was the sexual definition that came to mind my first.

though now I'm inclined to agree with Matcha being Lust, since he's obssessed with overcoming his destiny as a 3rd rate villain

It depends on what we mean by Lust.
Matcha isn't very horny, actually. He has a strong desire for girls and to conquer them, but the sexual component is barely present.
He is searching for his soulmate, thinking she could be the next woman who walks by him.
In reality, he has already found her (Seymour the Villainess), but they cannot coexist in the same timeline and the same canon. It's an impossible relationship. This drives him to look for surrogates, but he will never find happiness.

After reflecting on it, and considering the character's evolution, Matcha does not embody a capital sin but an ἰδέα, a concept, an archetype. Tragedy could be suitable, but perhaps "defiance" is better, the futile struggle of rebelling against a fate to which he is condemned.
It might be "bad ending", but in reality, he had his happy ending, albeit briefly and even though it never existed.
