On a scale of 1 to 10, how much badly does the word "Shatterborn" make you roll your eyes?

There's a new idea that's been knocking around my head for the past few days. Long story short, there are monsters in another dimension. If one of those monsters grows strong enough, it can break through the barrier between our world and theirs. This is called a Shattering, which creates a rift between the two worlds. Normally, the wave of otherworldly energy that a Shattering causes vaporizes anyone nearby, but in rare occasions that energy will fuse with someone instead, giving them special powers.

I was going to call these people Riftborn, but there's already a series with that name so probably best to move away from that. My next idea was "Shatterborn," but...I dunno, that one sounds kind of stupid. What do you think? Thumbs up or thumbs down on Shatterborn?

And for a second I thought you would make the rifts birth eldritch abomination and we read from the perspective of one.

The name is okay but I can't tell from the not cringe

It's a little "clunky" sounding but gets the job done. I'd say go for it. Sounds like a decent title at least.

I think the term sounds fine. It definitely sounds like an appropriate collective for monsters coming through rifts.

The monsters are born from a Shattering, so it makes sense to me.
Are they the only monsters, or are there ones that come through the Rifts? If the latter, then those ones could be called Riftborns

The monsters aren't the Shatterborn, the people who get powers from the Shattering are the Shatterborn. All of the monsters come out of the rifts. The Shattering is how rifts open.

My mistake. Still, the names makes sense because these Supers are born from Shatterings.
