The USSR had a much better food situation than other countries
Honestly to this day, USA, England, and Russia all still have trash food. You know who has good food? France.
Almost like the quality of a nation's food is inversely proportional to its contribution in WW2.

@Hans.Trondheim There is actually some truth to that statement. England for example actually took to making recipes with war rations during the war to the point where British recipes today are literally just war rations.
As an aspiring chef (or at least, a sliver), it's an interesting tidbit. I should look for more of it. Thanks for the heads up!

If we talk quality of food, then there was a CIA report about Soviet food that stated how it's actually better per capita than US back then. I will not be surprised that with the fall of the Soviet Union and thus lack of a cetralised planned economy the standards have fallen by a lot in Russia since then.

Actually, I read about this report. A friend studying international relations gave me a copy of his books and researches, and this belonged to those.
