It's best to pretend you are rich and would love to commission a "comic" for a couple of k and then offer to pay them upfront, revealing their PayPal. Then contact PayPal via email and report them. You'll also find out the real name of the scammer that way.
That, is brilliant.

If they really want to scam people they should be more informal.

Nice! Not as cool as the two guys I know who worked together to get $200 from a scammer as a bribe for the "FBI Agent" one of them pretended to be to not report the incident to his superiors...

what's this, a smut demand?
anyways, that won't be a scam unless the scammer says "I can draw hot naked girls for [insert price tag here]"

Honestly, some scammers are working with the brainpower of a dead rat and a stale, rain-soaked bun. Who in their right mind tries to scam the same person twice under the same name and expects a different outcome?

I was so excited to receive this comment, my first real engagement on Wattpad, but of course it's a scammer. It was almost certainly generated by an LLM, because their other comments are written in poor English. :blob_thor:

So I guess it's time we have a similar thread for scammers, inspired by this thread for looking and identifying translations. This serves not only to call out these unscrupulous individuals, but also to serve as reference for newbie authors, should they happen to encounter such users.

Any case, I received one early this morning, so I'd start the ball going. If you have similar messages, or comments, feel free to post them here. And don't cover the names for future reference.

THIS is what AI should be trained for; wasting the scammers' time on our own behalf.
Except half the scammers are AI too ... it would probably end up looking like that scene near the end of, I think it was Real Genius, where the student's desks are all full of various tape recorders, and there's a reel-to-reel deck with speakers at the teacher's desk giving the lecture.

Lol, like putting two bots in a combat room. The insults would be epic.

Call me a skeptic, but three profiles registered within an hour of each other, all claiming to be enthusiastic readers and artists, and none of them having any stories in their reading list or activity... It smells fishy. Oh, and one outright uses an unrelated book cover for a profile picture while another just scrapped a random pic off the net despite being "artists"...
