Are rest days really needed? Today is my rest day, and I have no energy left in me. I slept well last night, almost until 6 a.m. During the morning I was fine, but then my normal workout time passed, and now I feel as if I just want to sleep. I did do some stretching, but that doesn't seem to cut it.

Absolutely! Otherwise you get mental and physical burnout. It will take a toll on your health and rest as well. Take around 1 day a week to rest your mind and body.

But I don't feel as good as I should. To hear the other people talking, rest days should be this holy time when everything is sunny and fun. I have a headache right now. I haven't gotten one ever since I started waking up at normal times. Not only that, but I swear, I slept enough today.

It is absolutely necessary. If you're working out too much without getting enough rest, your body will start producing cortisol. Generally, depending on the intensity it is recommended to have 1-2 days of rest between workout.

It is rarely as you described to be fun. Rest days are usually forced and suck. Though I would take some ibuprofen and some high electrolyte water for the headache. A hot shower or bath can also help, especially if you are taking cold showers normally.

I'll try it with the shower. I think I have some aspirin lying around somewhere in my room. Thank you for your advice!

Resting your muscles is necessary, but one downside is that it can kill the momentum. If you're a master procrastinator like me, you're fucked. Will power can only get you so far.

To keep the momentum going, you can try exercising every day but with different muscle groups each day. That's why you hear people say leg day or chest day and such. Doing it daily and routinely will keep you in the momentum and less likely to procrastinate.
