I just noticed this trend lately with cultivation.
Cultivation is often split into three parts; physical body, Qi and last but not least is the mind/ spirit.
In the past, they are in sync with the main yardstick is to use the Qi as measurement. At lowest stage Qi condensation, the Qi is gaseous. Then at Scaffolding, the Qi might take form of liquid state and last is when the liquid Qi becomes solid during Golden Core Formation. When a person ranks up in Qi, they rank up automatically in body and mind.
This disregards the physical body and spirit and may sometimes surface as added bonuses, such as when a cultivator who also trains his body is stronger than those who did not. This kind of added bonus is often only slightly useful and not standalone.
But recently, I had been reading things like Body becoming Godlike or even Mind evolving to bend reality while Qi is being disregarded. Which is weird yet understandable?? Because this I think is doing D&D fantasy into the standard cultivation.
