If you could be reborn as any animal, what would it be?
Dinosaurs are allowed
Endangered species are allowed
Fantasy creatures are allowed, But only if they resemble animals (EX: Unicorns, Tanuki, Kitsune)

What about half animals like Centaurs and Mermaids? Because if that's allowed then mermaid. If not, probably a parrot or corvid

... I mean, a dragon has to count, via the dinosaur -> dragon pipeline, and a proper dragon has magic, often including of the transformation variety. Thus, isn't dragon just the objectively correct choice?

Failing that, humans are animals, ever the reliable choice.

Crocodile, I'd rarely have a predator, built to survive and last the fucking apocalypse even in radiated waters. They are literally built differently.

Dragons, if they don't count, kitsune. Either way, I'm getting a magical ability of some sort, and a kitsune might be better, since they're able to shapeshift into a human to either trick of help humans.

Phoenix or Amphiptere. Or a panther-crow-viper chimera. Kitsune isn't a bad shout either, nor is a western-style dragon. Assuming I'm not trying to cheat it with a human-adjacent (humans are animals). But no matter what, flight or magic or both is a necessity.

I'd like to be a bird. An eagle maybe, or a swallow. I've always wanted to fly.

Side note there is a movie about that, it's called the Lobster! Not a light watch at all, but its a great film.
