This is taking inspiration from KR regressor novels that I forgot name of. Basically due to butterfly effect, things changed.

Here's my example: MC fought in and lost the final war as a pawn, died and regressed back to his teen 50 years before the war.

What he didn't know is the inhumane treatment of regressors in this new timeline because BS that I hadn't thought of and got backstabbed by a close friend.

In previous life, because both men are crap, they gelled like glue. But in this life, due to MC suddenly showcasing new crap and enhancing both him and this friend, his friend got new ideas of exploiting him.

I don't like simp protagonists. it would leave a bad taste especially when he confronts his friend. I might like it if the MC was the evil friend.

Yeah I laugh, but why bad when he confronts his friend?

reading the example is enough to get me a headache on how pointless regression trope is starting to become.

Though, I wonder how the hell did he got end up with that same backstabbing friend?

Anyways, that doesn't matter now. Regression trope is something that everyone needs to be thought of carefully, otherwise it's likely become another trash I set aside.

I'm confused, what kind of butterfly effect would cause "regressors" to be treated inhumanely? How would those would be inhumane villains know who/what "regressors" are? Did he regress twice? Need more clarification.

Well, I'm playing the trope of "not knowing his true nature", so bear with me.

First of, the new timeline he's in is slightly different. In the original timeline, there is no such thing as regressor. This second timeline has regressors and people often treat the regressors harshly.

Second, in the first timeline, the friend isn't a backstabber. They were close friends because of how similarly pathetic they were. In this second timeline, due to hostility of regressors and that now this MC is a regressor that is more capable than the friend, things went awry with MC still expecting the timeline to be the same when it isn't.

I'm confused, what kind of butterfly effect would cause "regressors" to be treated inhumanely? How would those would be inhumane villains know who/what "regressors" are? Did he regress twice? Need more clarification.
Err no. I am not going a Subaru route and have multiple regressions.

Also, how inhumane? Think concentration camp level I guess.

As someone who reads a lot of regressor stories, and loves revenge stories, I'll tell you that this is very basic and generic plot in that genre. The only way you can get success is based on how well you can write a relatable main character, that's the only way it stands out. If it's good.
