This topic was bugging me for a long time already and I discussed it more than once with other people, who shared similar sentiments with me. I don't really like the reading layout of SH much and it makes me reluctant to read smth on the site for an extended time.

So I have some suggestions to make it more comfortable:

Fonts:
Please allow different fonts to read. Some prefer serifs while others don't.

Line distance:
This one is bothering me not only as a reader but also as an author. Especially when I set the font size on the max size; the distance between paragraphs just gets really wide and not a lot of text fits on the screen.

SH also automatically adds a line after a paragraph. A lot of authors add a line after a paragraph in their manuscript and SH converts it into a double line break, which is annoying to read and edit.

Color modes:
We have default (white) and dark mode. But I really prefer sepia mode as it's a thing between the two. Some sites also allow for customizing of background color and text color. Maybe allowing skins will also do.

Buttons:
The buttons to change font size are really small and very easy to be overlooked on the desktop version. It's also not very intuitive to have the color theme options placed separated from the font size options. Other sites made us get used to it being together with other text options. Looking through the forums, there are enough people who can't find the theme setting.

Frame:
I do not see the use of putting the text into an extra frame. It's distracting and takes up space. I know this is just my personal preference and probably not easy to fix since it's implemented in the site layout. Simple is better in my opinion. It makes SH look heavier than other sites and it also takes longer to load all elements.

Its not hard to do, but I think the reason for it's existence is similar formatting across devices.
It only expands up to a certain point, meaning that you don't have to move your eyes across half a meter of line if your screen is bigger.
And on small screens there is no frame.

Unless you're just talking about the frame as in color difference alone.

You do not see the frame on phone, but on desktop. I’m really peculiar with my comfort reading layout and it’s just like unnecessary packaging with the frame. I know I can just use the in-browser-built reader view.

But you know, less clicks=less work=more time to binge.

I for one like the frame, without it the page looks crammed up close or dangling if there's a lot of space around it.

So either Tony would have to make it customizable, or one of us has to do the clickwork.
Also, I think there are broswer extensions to enforce your style choices, so you could go with that

Aha yeah I'd like a larger spacing between the text please! :blob_melt: And the options for formatting out in the open instead of drop downs if possible!

I’m not even the fastest reader.

Well, the frame is kinda a very specific problem for me, since I use my screen in portrait mode when I binge read novels. I don’t have the dangling space. Instead I have an annoying text frame beside the physical frame of the monitor.

browser integrated reader view is an option, buuuut sites that have all customizable options for reading are just nice, you know? ?

Make it possible to force indentation, Tony! :blob_catflip:
Why? Indents are only there to save paper in traditional publishing. ? Personal opinion, but indents in webnovels are plain weird to me.

Not saying I don't understand your problem, but that won't make mine disappear

Look much better for me. Instead of a wall of text, you have little indented paragraphs spacing. Moreover, dialogue without indentation just looks horrible on PC.
