The only reason I ever go to reddit is for the r/HFY stories because a lot of those authors don't seem to even realize their are actual websites like RR and scribblehub to post their stories to

Not true.

People glue nonsense to the lamp posts all the time.

Especially around elections.

Those are like web novels. Lot of fiction, and occasional bad AI art.

I tried it. The police tried to stop me only once, and only because they were bored, and didn't want to deal with actual crime that day.

No one questioned the content. Warning people against the lizard men from space is so common that no one would question the scaly art.
