A few days ago I was talking with my friend. We had a small argument about TV adaptation of Witcher and different types of entertainment, art, goods and services in general. He said, as long as you like something(anything), you can go ahead and support it with your money. My stance is that like\dislike isn't enough. You should also look at the quality of the product. If it's good and you like it, go ahead and support it with money. However, if you like something of a bad quality, you should try to avoid supporting it with money. What are your thoughts?
I dont even see why you are argui ng

Y'all need to stop your pointless bickering, or debate (whatever you want to call this), about what quality is. No one is going to be right and no one is gonna be wrong. It's quite the opinionated ordeal.

I think if you enjoy it and want the creator to make more of said then you should support it.

Visual novels are a good example. While there are a few runaway success stories, most visual novels can only expect to sell maybe 3000 copies. So if it costs $100,000 to employ a programmer per year then the game would have to be sold $33.33 per copy to break even (Not counting fees and overhead just for simplicity). It becomes obvious that there are not many visual novels being made anymore. They just don't have a viable market.

However, who would buy a visual novel that doesn't have an artist and writer on staff? Maybe if someone forced themselves to be a one person game studio the quality wouldn't be good. I think that is different than enjoyable though.

People that get no engagement are likely to burn out and quit making the thing. A lot of bad things can be fixed with iterations. Like for example weapon smith on RR I liked, but there were so many grammar errors and the comments in the fiction pointed them out. But the author didn't see to respond to people pointing them out and offering corrections. I wouldn't support someone like that.

Also, I really hate paetron for books. Google assistant doesn't like the locked chapters. I'll join a paetron for a month or so to read ahead but only if they have epubs.

Thank you all for replying(except for you Cipiteca396, go and assume things in different thread :blob_upset:). With your help (you didn't help Cipiteca396:blob_pout:), I think I understand where I was wrong.
I didn't assume anything, I just replied to what you said. No need to be so mean. :blob_teary:

Was I too aggressive/tired? I'll rephrase it then. "No. I liked it, and I want to see it get better."

In the end, it is their money, they can do whatever they wish with it. It is not for another to dictate how one enjoys the fruits of their labor. Plus, all that matters for any media is that it is enjoyable. Quality can make it enjoyable, but it is not necessarily required. For example, Homestuck (I know weird pull, but I randomly watched a video about them suing a youtuber recently and has been pinging around my head) was not exactly a quality work in story telling. It is unnecessarily long, confusing, and convoluted. Yet people enjoyed it and supported it when it was still alive. If you like something, you should be allowed to like and support it even though other people don't. I don't like homestuck nor its creator, but it is within the right of those who enjoyed it to support it.
