Interesting title, no? If it weren't interesting you wouldn't have clicked and read this. Anywhore...

There are a lot, lots, and alot of stories across the internet. More than ever there are a variety that have rule-breaking content.

Illegal content too.

What if we clean them up? Can those stories be published here if we were to remove the naughty bits? Do we have to purge any copies of the original for the story to be authorized? Would anyone be against the idea? I'd like to permit my mind to wander and wonder. I can't do that freely when I can't see the hidden boundaries. Is editing, censoring, fixing up a wrong story okay? Can we remove such bullshit as politically incorrect content or is it forever tainted and unwelcomed?

Wouldn't censoring (or fixing?) a story be changing the story and possibly making it inconsistent?

It kind of depends on the story. If the story has the type of illegal content and it has no bridge to the original plot, than it can be done and probably make the story better cause why have the illegal stuff without connecting with the overall story. However, most stories if they're at least decently written, will have the majority of stuff portrayed in the story work with the overall narrative, so in turn it'll make it nearly impossible censoring the illegal stuff without rewriting the story, or leaving out key plot points.

You. I'll respond to ye. You got this concept in my noggin and it's rattling around deeze nutso aligned ideas that any story will get a pass IF the story is any good. That looks bias. Isn't that bias? No story is good. Look at the paperback novels that didn't age well. I have a few favorites and they upset me in this political climate, presently.

Thank you. That is what I meant in my earlier comment.
gotta remember too that the characters personalities might lead to these circumstances and so just taking the illegal parts away might make the characters hollow...
Yes, inconsistencies.

Illegal content too.
Illegal content? Pfft, whose gonna police us? The mods? The few that they are?

Boy, the mods couldn't afford to give a fuck if they had it financed. They've wandered the fields of fuckery. Its barren. They've looked high, they've looked low. There's not a fuck to give anywhere.

What can be even be cosnidered illegal in a fiction? its all fantasy, even if you write about a guy that just rapes people and always gets away with it, it shouldnt be illegal, unless there are regulations in your country against certain books that despict certain political views or something? if not, anything can be published, even more easily now with amazon kindle. the real problem here is if that's even going to sell, you can make your stories as edgy as you want and publish them, but don't expect to get a big readerbase buying everything

Anything that violates the Terms of Service of Scribblehub or the Content Guidelines of Scribblehub cannot be published on Scribblehub. If you see any story that violates them, please feel free to report them, and appropriate action will be taken as needed.

If the story is yours, and it doesn't fit the content guidelines of Scribblehub, you can publish an edited version in the website so as to make it fit the appropriate guidelines.

If the story is not yours, then you cannot post it here.

That question alone is very karen-like no matter how you think about it otherwise. "Hey, this is illegal, means bad. This fantasy and not historical book should be banned, or at least completely remade to satisfy no one's itch." Except for a false sense of power, of course.

There's obvious things that should just not be written because of how nonsensical the content is like: a book of murder where the protagonist does as such, describing everything that's happening for as horrible as it is and that's the only thing happening in the book or novel -whatever-; why even write such a kind of book? Or the same method but with rape, scams, drugs... It's just nonsensical writing that is describing horrors of humanity. Of course, there are also lighter stuff that is also non-acceptable (?), but it was just to give an example.

Harem is illegal in maaaaaany countries, should every book people write at scribble hub be forced to change their story because of that? Should that happen while it is highly seen in a FW country like china? Or when novelupdates have so many successful novels with the harem tag even despite the harem haters wannabees?

Is there really a rule like that? I mean there are warning tags, so you can write anything as long as you turn them on, right?

I’ve read quite a few stories with questionable contents, but those are just fictions. There’s really nothing wrong with it.

Think of raping for an example; there are a lot of those in smuts or Xianxia novels. Raping is illegal, of course, but there’s nothing wrong with writing or reading about it because it’s fictional, not real.

And it also depends more on the reader’s taste, than it does the rules. Heck, I don’t even know there’s a rule like that at all.

As for something like political incorrectness. You can always avoid that. What’s the usual bullshit here? Oh, is it “It’s the alternate universe!”? There, problem solved.

I tend to read over rules, but I also forget way too much. When I don't remember or am uncertain, I search for my answer. I'll copy paste the content guidelines on what is prohibited down here and the link right here: "Content Guidelines" (also the ToS says stuff too about user content, but is up for discretion on what is deemed prohibited).

Prohibited Content

The following guidelines list content that are not allowed. We reserve the right to remove any content we deem to be inappropriate.

  • Pornographic stories - These are content that are basically porn without a plot. This is referring to the whole story, not a chapter or 50% of your story.
  • Age of Consent - The age of consent is 18+. This is referring to the real age of the character. Any sexual content between characters must abide by this age of consent.
  • Encouraging Non-Consensual Sexual Content - These are stories that are encouraging non-consensual sexual acts. Your story cannot be encouraging non-consensual sex acts.
  • Illegal Sex Acts - These are content which encourages illegal sexual acts including but not limited to bestiality (real-world animals) or necrophilia.

  • Illegal Sex Acts - These are content which encourages illegal sexual acts including but not limited to bestiality (real-world animals) or necrophilia.
Basically, it goes as follows
1. Pornographic stories. As long as your story has a story and is not "I wake up, have sex. I have lunch, while having sex. And I went to work, and have sex. I came home and have sex in the train." or anything that is full of sex and only exist with the entire theme about having sex, it's not a problem.
2. Age of consent. If you imply that under 18 had sex but does not actually show the sex, it's fine.
3. Encouraging Non-Consensual Sexual Content - As long as you don't tell people that rape is normal and should be done by normal people, it's fine. If you have a protagonist that rapes someone, but you have shown enough that such behaviours are evil and condemned in the story itself, then it's fine.
4. Illegal Sex Acts. The keyword is 'encourage'. If you portray it as a distasteful habit, or it's done by unsavoury individuals, instead of glorifying it as something amazing that everyone should try once, then it's fine.

It's not that Tony hates these stuff, but he's afraid that google ads would flag the site for contents like that. Just go to ASSTR if you really have to post stuff like that. They don't care and haven't cared about policing any content since the 90s. Therefore, if you guys want a free and uncensored creativity, support them with donations.

There are a lot of stories that break these rules, though, and they seem to be doing well.

I know. I believe that might be because Tony isn't going to read every single story for approval. That's just not possible to be done alone.

I don’t think he cares that much. Take the third rule for example—Encouraging Non-Consensual Sexual Content. Put it simply, write about raping. But it doesn’t make sense since there’s a rape tag in SH. It’s contradicting itself, don’t you think?

I think it would if the phrase had been "Non-Consensual Sexual Content", but it includes "Encouraging". That is what I believe @Ai-chan had been pointing out about "glorifying" the act. It's one thing to have a rape scene, it's another to propagate the act within the story.

Now I want to say encouraging any illegal act could (not really "would") be seen as suggesting malice of any kind might be the correct response in some scenario (detailed in whatever story). I do know that many of us claim to be smart enough to look past this and say it wouldn't hurt anyone because it is fiction. I also know that there are people out there (maybe here too) that get inspired by fantasies we write and don't care about the incredibly real consequences of their actions. Those types of people are the kind I keep telling everyone why they shouldn't push themselves to make all their readers happy. There are real twisted people who have and will do bad things because of something they read and thought that sounded "good" enough (for them) to try. I'll never cater to those types of people.

I apologize for going into a little rant about this topic. I'll stop talking here.
