It's not even that hard to write a good harem story. You just have to choose a profession, personality, and a few core values for each of the love interests. You know, decide who they'd be outside of the romance. Plus you throw in some friends of the same gender and a few opposite gender acquaintances as well as have a plot outside of the romance for all of the characters to focus on. Then poof! You have a solid story without all the cliche downfalls everyone is complaining about because it'd be a good story even without them being romantic with one another.
