You died, only to find yourself reincarnated in a generic fantasy world with nothing of interest.
As time goes on, the world gets bleaker and bleaker, to remind you of the end. It starts out normally. However, once you reach maturity, the world starts becoming darker.

The sun is bleeding darkness into the world, the world is getting darker, and weird monsters with wings fly around the place, beckoning the end times.

You know the apocalypse will come, and the world will not go out in a scream, or in acceptance, but rather, a whimper. All you can do is delay the inevitable, accept it, or become the master of a dark new world.

What would you do?
1. Would you still save the world knowing nothing good would happen if you did? Why or why not?

2. Do you have a plan?

Simple, I will not save it. I will also not die, how? It's a fantasy world albeit generic. Maybe some teleportation magic could transport me into another world with my loved ones. (If I would have one in the new world in the first place) So my answer here is actually quite simple, just run. If the world is doomed then you should run. If you don't have any talent in magic then maybe you could submit the idea to some mages that can actually do the teleport. If you don't have any ways to contact a mage then just go to a magic school, every generic fantasy world has that. If you don't have enough money to enter the school then maybe you could train in some forbidden arts that can get you stronger but it has a backlash, it will always consume your life span. Life span should not concern you because you already died once, I would just assume that if I die again I would always go to a different world. The only things that I would be careful of are some sealing magic or some soul-killing magic. Becoming a master of the new world is also a great option. The only thing that stops me from this option is the endless responsibilities that I would have after becoming a master. Dying and reincarnating again would be a greater option in that case. (I'm just lazy lol) Fighting against the inevitable is just dumb because you're just asking to get killed. If those monsters are some beings that are like a parasite that haunt the world then my first option would be invalid because running is also a way of delaying the inevitable so my best bet on that approach is to die and be reincarnated again hoping that I would get reincarnate to a different dimension where there is no monsters like that.

Do I even have the ability to save the world? How can I save others if one can barely save thyself?
Plan? Yes. Run. Scream. Panic. Say goodbyes to loved ones. Tries to take shelter and probably be one of the first npcs to be squashed.

1. If the powers at be are the same as our own. It’s best for the world to be left to its own fate.
2. Watch the world spiral into flames.

I'm actually against the idea of the sky becoming darker and more ominous and all that as the end approaches. It's far scarier when it reflects the reality that you can have a clear peaceful day when just down the street there's a demon hoard invading and slaughtering a bunch of people.

I actually have my Key to the Void story take place in a world literally named Hell. It is a land where there's vast forests, rolling plains, a bustling trade economy, and otherwise looks like your typical bronze-age civilization with some fantasy creatures added into the mix. The part that makes it "Hell" is the fact that the people here also have a bronze-age mind-set in regards to human rights. No fire and brimstone or anything of the sort, and the days are just like days here, but the atrocities that mankind can inflict upon each other just for the lack of social order most certainly make this world deserving of the name "Hell."

(The fun part is bein casual about it as the writer, not overly dwelling on it and calling it an atrocity. I show it off by things like my MC participating in a kids combat training exercise against a bunch of bandits, in which the kids at the end are praising the MC for how gory one of their kills was in a tone and mood that is exactly like modern day kids would praise someone's performance in a sports match. The dissonance is from the fact that they're not even reveling in the gore. This kind of death and destruction is so commonplace for them that it's not even worth getting excited over, whether that "excitement" be in a positive (glorifying) or negative (repulsed) sense.)

How is that even a question? Of course I would save it. You say nothing good will happen, but that is obviously untrue.

If you see someone assaulting someone else, and you have the power to stop them, then any decent person should do it. If you see someone attampting a murder, and you have the power to stop it, then you should stop it. If you see that the world is dying, and you have the power to stop it, then you should stop it. Since you gave us the power to save it, then we should do so. Simple as that. It isn't even heroic to choose to help, that is just common decency. The heroic thing is to help despite all the personal hardships it entails to do so, but that is another discussion.

It is clear that the living conditions of this world are depressingly harsh, but that has no bearing on whether you should save it or not.
By that logic we could just destroy the poor African countries since they have harsher living conditions than us. The homeless people in our streets don't have the right to live or to be helped, because they suffer more hardship than us. Even we should die, because our comfort is nothing compared to the one enjoyed by millionaires.
No, we all deserve to be saved, because how comfortable your life is has no bearing on the value of your life.

Another point you raised was that you would delay the inevitable, but that is similarly irrelevant.
If you are infected by a deadly but easily curable disease, should the doctors refuse to cure you because you will die one day anyways? We should stop worrying about global warming, since the earth is going to be engulfed by the sun in four billion years anyways. I am sorry to say that we are all doomed, but that changes absolutely nothing to the value of our lives.

As for how to save it, whether it is by using your save option or becoming the master of the world, that depends on what becoming the master really means. If there is no drawback, then I will choose that, since it seems like a better version of your first option.
Before that, I would plan to restrict my powers as much as possible, because power corrupts. How I would do that would depend on what being the master of the world means, but if I let myself take control, this world would probably become a totalitarian nightmare very fast. I think the harm of me effectively stopping humanities philosophical and moral advancement would be greater than the good I would do by enforcing the moral standards of our current society (which I believe in).

p.s. I don't think a generic fantasy world could exist in reality. It does in books because the authors restrict them, but take a look at the variety present in nature and you will see there is no such thing as a generic world in real life.

1. Rather than become the master of the new world, I prefer to accept its fate but getting my own strength. Since it is a generic fantasy trope, I would try to learn magics and achieve immortality or maybe creating a pocket space on my own. Where I can be safe on my own space and learn more about magic.
2. Then I would just watch the world. Maybe if I got bored I would explore other worlds as well using the magic I've learned throughout time.

1. Depend, if this world gives me a reason to care. Then yeah, I'm going to try it.
2. Plan? Hah! If this is truly just a "generic fantasy world", then all I need is just friendships, honor, and all of that fluffy stuff.

I'm pretty sure Selkie means that you try to save the world but fail. Also global warming is basically a scam just a means to get more votes and get people to more nihilistic. Also power doesn't corrupt, that's literally a myth made up by the liberal truth regime to justify small government and bullshit
