Look what I'm doing instead actually finishing my novel.
Girl is supposed to be one of my characters from the novel, looks absolutely disappointed on how I created her image.
I said "supposed" to be because I wanted to flesh out the character design more, this ain't her in her prime looks, or so I think.

The great artists of SH, do tell me what you think that I should add/improve just by looking at her somewhat expressive face.

Move down her eyes and nose, move up the mouth a tiny bit and give it some shape rather than leave it at ?

Give her eyebrows

decide on what expression she should make, search on Pinterest [expression] drawing reference and study it

honestly i see no problem with how the expressions look myself, it was rather energetic.

what i want to comment on is that i dont really see any information about the character and how the design actually tell something about her story, just the face of an expressive girl, that's all. it's probably because it's just face instead of letting her clothes, poses and even the environment describe who she is.

Actually yeah, the eyes do looks a bit funky. I'll try following your tips.

It's too hard for me to make a half, or even a full body design right now, my friend. I barely picked the pen, not even a day after it arrives :er_what_s:
I'll try to tell more story about a character by design in the future when my hands are used with the pen, thanks!

I lack the skill to give any tips, but the hair is nicely done!
Why, thanks. Somehow it ended up quite nice too.

Still not the look I'm looking for. But hey, at least she had expression now, albeit weird. Also she got a tan, for some reason.
It was meant for a slightly side profile posture, but the face seems out of proportion, and the hair made it like it's a front profile.

Better than most AI works, better than ALL art scammers.
Good job, keep it up. A lot of potential.
Thanks. I'm truly a potential man. Stuck at potential that is.

Lol, these faces look funny, but in a good sense.

If you improve just a little more, you could use them as a cover.

How about you challenge yourself a little more? I seriously think you have some talent. The faces may look awkward, but that's what makes them unique.

Aww cute!! You have a talent for drawing hair! You could learn to sketch in guide lines before doing lineart.

Goofy faces. While I was aiming for a silly face because the character itself has this silly-energetic persona in the novel, let's just say it came out a little to silly.
Maybe I'll try learning more about proportions. Thank you.

I swear the lineart wasn't that bad when I made it. It somehow became goofier the more I add details.
Thanks for the video reference, I'll try watching it when I have the time. :blob_paint:

My college grade is cooked.

Anyway, here is another version. While the proportion is okay (except the shoulders), something feels lacking. I'm not a fan of the color pick as well.
The eyes seems a little too big. I swear it wasn't that big before. It looks goofy as well, might switch back to the first iteration style.

Eyebrows missing

the eyes and nose are too high set even more if you want the cute anime proportions

Also try gradient on the hair base color, gives you artificial contrast

Clothes. She's lacking clothes.
Why, indeed. I'll add one when I made a half-body one.:blob_paint:

Pon? Never heard of it. I do like this art style though, didn't know what its called :blob_cringe:

Forget the light source, or I just ignore it completely. Also I just realized the eyelashes are the wrong way.
I just can't seem make the eyes proportional to each other while respecting the perspective that I'm using, it'll always be one too large I'm going insane. :blob_no::blob_no:

This is adorable! I’m already seeing improvements. Don’t worry, the disproportionate eyes is a universal problem for amateur and skilled artists haha. You could use the cheat trick by drawing one eye and copy-pasting it to the other side and flipping it (if the character is directly facing front). Remember, in general, the eyes are around one eye-width apart. Guidelines will be your best friend! :)

The copy-paste is smart.
But what if...

You close one eye so I only have to focus on one eye :blob_shade:
Honestly I think I overdid it for the hair, what even is that.

Happy New Year.
No Aoyama this time, instead here's my OC, well, just me, I guess.

1767276291402.png

I swear the hands is so hard to make. Insane, it made me went insane. The shading for the clothes is awful, I have no idea how to shade so random shape is good enough for me. THE HANDS, IT'S HAUNTING ME. The face is good enough, I think. They're better than my last. Also, the eyes is decent. THE HANDS THOUGH.
For the hair, I like it. Though the shading, again, is just me guessing based on the light source (the fireworks in my hand). The Hands... (Okay, this is the last time). Also, the fireworks in the background are just copy paste of the one sparks I'm holding in my right HAND.
Hey, at least I made it, though a tad bit late. Happy new year!
