What are some wholesome philosophies of family, friends, and romantic love? As in, what are some goals to, say, have a partner, that are genuinely sweet? Or making a family when you don’t have one? Literally anything like that, with an in-depth description of what you mean. Ones that are something that you or others you know (or philosophies of life that you can see people actually living by).
Any schools of thought related to family or romantic love you can think of?

I refer to vodka ?, for philosophy.
Does make it easier to think and harder to write. But it is a fair trade-off.
Tip:: Just keep a voice recorder 'on' & illustration about your novel nearby, when you start bumbling stuff after 2 bottles. Believe me, you be surprised by the results.

The goal of creation (personal)

So, I had a good period where I felt pretty worthless and ya know ✨ ~bullied~ ✨ so I figured if I could MAKE something that was worth something, then I’ve got to be worth something, right? These things had to somehow be separate but part of myself.

I had always enjoyed painting and knitting. I got back into stuff. I learned to crochet and am currently crocheting coral reef for an environmental awareness project! I learned to dance, I gained skills.

I try to keep a sense of who I am and what I like through what I make. All of these things are a reflection of me and my mind that are REAL.

I was also raised where the goal of a family was to create a better world for you and your family.

Having children would be the ultimate creation because you could make a happy home for them, create a safe place, etc. Now, I don’t want this confused with HaVe BiO kIdS. It’s about forming something better than yourself that will live on after you. You can do that through adoption, through being a role model, through respecting yourself.

A goal of creation: Just stretching and pulling out pieces of yourself to shape into something worth leaving behind, until one day joining my Creator.

I think this philosophy is exactly what I am looking for. It really encompasses the aims of the side character I am looking into creating, with family and such being an important focus in such a healthy way. It's quite wholesome and human! Distilling this into the best friend of the MC will be wondrous!
I'm so sorry you were bullied by the way!!!

Alternate philosophy (not mine personally)

Holding a goal, creating an ideal image, and then chiseling and sculpting yourself to meet it.

whereas I view my creations as a reflection of myself, unchanging, this philosophy would be seeing yourself as your own creation. You force yourself to meet goals, are probably pretty strait laced. Think Lawful Neutral with Obsession towards a Goal of Self.

imaging a stubborn person that picked a handle of things to be a life goal, maybe chose a role model and every action of theirs going forward was to put themselves into the correct environment to become that. They chose their friends based on if they would meet that image, they attended classes to learn about the subject, they did everything to become the One Thing they wanted until they Actually Were. A self-made person in either the best or worst way.

This could be the result of trauma. You had a terrible childhood, so you decided you wanted to be a combination of your friend’s perfect mom + that lawyer on tv. You went to law school, chose a suitable partner, bought that perfect picket fence house.

I see this character being played in two ways: awful and controlling, or sweet with a bleeding heart surrounding by a wall made of the perfect persona.

I prefer the second image. Following the mom lawyer, they would let their children be themselves, encourage them to do anything, love it even if they ended up being a failed paper mache artist. They just hold themselves ONLY to this unrealistic standard while trying their best to be good and accepting of everyone else.

wait… ok yeah I might have a ~dash~ of this in my personality

I’m glad it works! Yeah, the bullying sucked but it’s character development I guess lol In any case it’s over now - my family was always super supportive of me and I’m around much better people now. If you want any extra ideas for that sort of character I’m happy to respond

I might ask for help later, but not right now! I'm just particularly enamoured with creating and building up this character that won't be introduced for a while (not that long, but still fairly long)!:blob_joy::blob_joy::blob_joy:

Love is a verb. One has a degree of control over the emotion by their actions. People choose what they love. Furthermore, if one loves that will be shown by their actions.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

Love keeps no record of wrongs. Love is what binds together in harmony.
