Why won't you speak your mind? You really just speak your mind. I respect that lol
Those who love God follow his commandments. It is impossible to love God and be a monster. It is possible to love God and be a monster, or to disbelieve in God and be a good person.
What the dragon-lover saidThis is an example of a culture without the love of God in it. You're not too sensitive. You are simply recognizing the lack of love in the world.
“They made it look like a competition.”
Vietnamese culture aren't like that. South East Asian in general are not that competitive compared to Korean/West Japanese. But then many people tried to emulate that culture because they only see its good side. Especially young people these days.Is this just a cultural thing or am I overly sensitive?
First, as a Southeast Asian (Philippines), a parent spanking their child is pretty common here, which is part of our 'discipline' culture. I used the word 'spanking', because I think it's different from 'beating', which is another form of discipline. However, for the latter, it is excessive. I've worked with students who will come to my class with bruises, and would brush it off as 'discipline'. While I did tell them it is tantamount to 'abuse', I'm not the parent of the child, and our protocols dictate that I shouldn't care for them unless it is about work, which is educating them.Just heard a story from my Vietnamese friend today.
Apparently, a mother beat her daughter which caused her to commit suicide.
My friend translated a bunch of comments for me. After reading them, I couldn’t feel more disgusted.
The comments said they were beaten by their parents when they were young too but they didn’t commit suicide.
I couldn’t feel more horrible seeing those replies in the comment section of the post. I think my friend said it better than me. “They made it look like a competition.”
Is this for real?
Would they go to see someone died from a cold and showed off that they passed through covid without vaccine like some kind of flex too?
I mean discipline is needed when teaching your kids, but if your discipline caused your kid to commit suicide then something is not right with the way the parent educated her children. Your children don’t just suddenly kill themselves from a slap or a punch or a spanking. You need to do something very wrong or do something wrong in a prolonged period to accumulate and result in that consequence. Whatever the case, I think it’s not the occasion to make those aforementioned comment.
Is this just a cultural thing or am I overly sensitive?

Here in Southeast Asia, if we're not after each other's throats, we're fighting our neighbor countries.Vietnamese culture aren't like that. So Philippines are Russia of Southeast Asia, while Russia is Philippines of eastern Europe? Here in Southeast Asia, if we're not after each other's throats, we're fighting our neighbor countries.![]()

We did a good job, we saved the thread from getting... you know what. Don't say the word or it will appear.Oops! Sorry for 'hacking' the thread. >.<

History says otherwise. Remember the Spanish Inquisition where they would kill anyone they saw as a heretic(or in actual terms anyone who disagreed with the church), and the fact that crusades were ever a thing pretty much just proves that loving a god a bit too much will cause people to turn into monsters. Those who love God follow his commandments. It is impossible to love God and be a monster.
I don't think it's 'god' that has much to do with it because if you look at Nazi Germany it was the same thing. The biggest issue is centralized power, the 'church' in the past was a huge centralized power that demanded others follow them and their rule. If you've been in communist china or heard from their survivors from the cultural revolution (North Korea too) they were made to worship their chairman as a god.History says otherwise. True which is my point. Anyone can be a monster, whether they be a Christian, Jew, Buddhist, Atheist, or whatever. And at the same time, anyone can be a good person.I don't think it's 'god' that has much to do with it because if you look at Nazi Germany it was the same thing. While I agree with you that it's not the case of "a need to follow a god to be decent" I don't think it's a 'love of god' that causes the corruption when atheist/agnostic regimes have done many of the same atrocities.
It's generally always a great need in every era to have critical thinkers who question whoever is in power.
