Look, you don't know that. I think you should adopt a more positive outlook and see. You've got incredible writing skills and a decent following. Maybe your job will be safe, who knows? Make yourself valuable to them for the time being and see what happens. *^^*

If you want my advice, plan for the worst and start job-hunting now. Definitely monetize your writing, but only as a side hustle. The ratio of profit and effort for a full-time content creator is awful. It would bring you to burnout even faster than your current job.

If your current financial situation is solid enough, then don't panic. Bottom line, life is tough, you gotta be tougher.

(Though, I wouldn't have turned to a forum for advice.)

dont quit. if you have no readers your next project will be no different (assuming its similar). if you're starting to write for money study the market and adapt

I am in a very different situation than you, but I am writing because;

A - I like it; and

B - I want to build a group of followers who like my writing style, so later on, when I monetize a new story, I might get a few extra bucks every month from people wanting early access or whatever. It is a slim hope but I would love to make this my new career. (it is my new career, just doesn't pay a dime yet)

As MasterY001 says, if your worried about your current job, dust your resume off now. Depending on what you do and your experience, you might be able to move to a different company with a significant raise. Sadly, most companies have more money to hire people, than retain current employees.

I'm counting all your readers total for your works. If you go to status options, you can get a list of recent readers.

It depends on how much a dollar costs in your country, and then, next to it was how popular your novel was. That's the case for me. Even with my beginner luck, I was able to gain enough to pay off the rest of my college and some. I think worth two semesters or three? Something like that.

How many chapters or words are you planning? Do you cross-post to a certain bigger platform? Do you plan to utilize social media as well?

If you're willing to stretch to at least 100 chapters or 200k words, you might have a chance.

If you can meet their schedule and "quality" demands, PocketFM can provide a decent income (in theory at least) - but you do need to have at least two novels going at a time, and be able to put out at least a chapter in each a day to see real money (I haven't yet)

Even I can't live off of Patreon yet I live in a place where $800/month would do it.

Sorry, but one work alone won't do it. That’s just reality.

If you want to earn from it, for real and maybe as fast as possible, go to Webnovel, start posting, and then apply for a contract. Then you can post 1,500-word chapters per day to hit their requirement, where they will boost your earnings to $200 at the start if you can maintain it.

Making it indie-style, which is why I am not willing to sell off my IPs to big corpo is the hardest way.

If I ever lose my job, I may do it though.
