Opinions upon survival novels

Personally they are too far inbetween. And most of them are missed tagged or aren’t true survival — all the ones where they become suddenly OP and leave or conquer survival zone.


My ideals for survival novel are crafting, resource management, and struggle — being weaker than the rest, and can die at any second.

Ideal scenario is where they never become too strong, but the Mc isn’t the strongest but through wits is able to carve a spot in the food chain. They can still die, but they ain’t no pussy bitch (Bear grills words).

But I do enjoy the military war stories, where they are surviving a war.

Literally became god.

It was never marketed as a survival novel though, so it shouldn't be flamed for that. It's still a good read!

Reincarnated spider so what series more than half of it survival with multiple POV bits you can mostly skim if you want to
the natural, Pokémon fanfic, for the beggining and near the end (hiatus)
apotheosis of a demon (I think that was the name) a sci-fi fantasy with a bit too black and white morals but very fun survival and creative powers and premise. Climax was surprisingly satisfying to read, but action in general is well written here. Less wilderness survival vibe but, well, it’s hard to explain but I think it fits.

I will touch the skies pokémon fanfic with survival elements but only certain arcs. Same for Symbiotic but on the scale of survival no survival, it’s nudged more to the survival side.

I love survival too! Need moreee! Though I don’t like it when it’s only survival- in it’s a spider I almost got antsy waiting for the MC to get out and interact.

Speaking as an author, the drive to make your character op is a symbolic example of man VS nature, and man winning.

As someone who was homeless for 10 years, and actually spent a few years of that in a national park forest. I find most survival stories to be utter bullshit wrote by some office rat that has never experienced it.

Aader, I feel you bud. Not with being homeless. But with the stories, they are never true survival knowledge. Almost as if they just skipped a wiki, and didn’t look up any guide books, and have never gone into the woods.

Okay, fine, mostly I read survival tales with animal protagonists. I quite enjoyed Kazan and Baree, especially since wolf-dogs are the cutest.

As for survival tales with humans, I like those, too, though I haven't read any since I was a teen. I don't think I've read any survival web novels, though, so go ahead and point me at some good ones--I'll develop an opinion (presumably) after reading some.
