now i'm curious, what is the worst platform that exists?
Well, that's really a cross choice between neopload, Web Novel, Miraquill, Inkitt, and Movellas. Web Novel needs no introduction, and I don't do "contracts" with my stories, period, never-ever. The two M's here simply have bad website design and no features. You know how some sites don't allow you to have image media or embed non-text content in the body text of your chapters? Well let's just say some sites are more lacking than others. Inkitt was really bad about their features, but worse, they basically locked me out of my account and never got back to me on the support tickets I submitted. That reminds me that Booksie kind of did the same thing to me (not their Classic version, but their separate server for Mature content). Neopload actually got me to try pushing some content into it, but after long enough I just quit and deleted everything there. Regarding what I said about Wattpad having low views, low discoverability, and very poor if not nonexistent user-user interaction, Neopload was somehow worse right out of the box. You can't even see who or which user profile follows your book if any of them ever do, and the dealbreaker on the cake for me was, they have a maximum character limit per chapter for 35,000 units. Not words, characters (letters, spaces, symbols). Any decent sized chapter had to be split into 3 or more sub-parts.
Oh, I almost forgot about Bhooks... Strange site. It's mostly just lack of features there, but it was eerie to me because it felt like a ghost town. It would take weeks for anyone in their unique forums to respond. I got the strange gut feeling that it's only a place you put content to if you
want it to be ripped off/pirated.
I almost published on Geeke.app, but I got ticked off when their clearly broken and difficult-to-use website finally got updated, with previous promises to fix all the bugs they were having and to rework the UI. Not only did they not uncomplicate the UI, they didn't fix the main issue I was having with them, the issue being that a single story chapter, my own or someone else's would take 10 minutes to load, or just not load entirely, mobile or web. Might work fine for some, but if that isn't universal it's a hard pass for me too.
If you're looking for a contest, I'm sure someone knows something worse than what I've mentioned so far.
what happened with them? They are fairly new
Ritoria? Eh, I'm just not feeling them yet. They have the same basic writing features you would expect with Belle, and for me, if I can't at least directly hyperlink to reveal an image media into the body content, it's a hard no for me. They said they were about to include it in their next site updates, so I won't write them off too soon. They already have the feature for their forums but not thier books, so they can't play the "it's too hard to code in" card.
Belle also doesn't have the image media feature yet, but I've stayed with them anyway because they more than make up for some of their shortfalls in other areas. Not sure what the deal is over there with their web technitian and developer, but I would like to see them upgrade, if only they would just do it. Not all sites have a "premium only" mode, so I have to wonder if the administrators in one way or another are basically working for free when they do.
