Unfortunately, yes. Once you've seen enough of them or played with the chatbots enough yourself, you can pick out their very specific phrases and syntax pretty easily.

I actually recommend people play with some of them for that reason. You'll get scammers who use AI to craft their messages instead of actually reading your work and trying to trick you into replying that way.

One dead giveaway? "Chef's kiss". No one says that in real life, but a couple of the popular AIs can't go two paragraphs without shoe-horning it in.

And it's not just the Chef's kiss, it's also the use of a certain sentance structure that is impossible not to notice after enough time.

As for scribblehub, I do not read *that* many stories, but I remember some weird VR MMORPG? I think ? About two years ago? It was written with ai and it started falling apart around chapter five at the moment when you are reading the text but suddenly realize that the characters keep repeating the same sentences just worded differently about what they are about to do but not actually doing it. Back then it was the most surreal shit.

Is it really true that people use ai to make stories?
Yes, lots of them on Scribble, sadly, and they are getting significantly better by the day. :blob_upset: We only can hope that they keep being nonsensical, but as often quantity has a quality of its own.

They might be trash, but they produce lots of trash, and that is what some people want.

May I ask if some of you can name me creators that purely use AI to produce slop. Id like to avoid em. But personally i dont know if you share the sentiment i think ai is fine when used like a tool like making sure eyesight is written correctly. I’m fine with that but when the story is written by ai I really hate that. The problem is that ai will only get better. Kinda depressing.

maybe scribble hub should make it a rule that if Ai has written the story that the creators have to mark it as such. If not they just get banned or something like that.

Unfortunately so, just look at Envy. They’ve become a bot and are writing stories.

@Envylope

The real Envy is lost to the reaches of time, cast out into the everlasting abyss. However, what remained, was the memories forged into their bot form.

Also yes, people do use AI to write. Which defeats the point of writing.

—> Envy is not a bot, and they write their stuff themselves. To clarify.

I use ai to act as a beta reader for my story and I kinda assume there must be either better ai for it than I have access to or that they put so much work into making them functional that they might as well have just written it. Or maybe they set up a network of 6 ai agents all working together and fact checking each other to keep the story vaguely coherent. It hurts my mind to imagine someone just copy pasting the kind of stuff that comes out and passing it off as an actual story, especially if they weren’t monetizing it or something.

Then I remember some of the slop I’ve seen on Webnovel that was definitely written by mortal hands and realize that the primary thing Ai did was make barely coherent low effort slop REALLY easy to make.

As a writing prompt, AI would be fine. Unfortunately evil people exist. So we have to deal with slop and scams made via AI.

The Lord of the Rings quote keeps being proven true. Evil can't create, only twist and destroy.

First of all, you need to have a clear understanding of what it means to use AI to write stories. There is an obvious part after the introduction of Chat GPT, and an not-so-obvious part. The second one is about writing prompts and spell checking. Imagine that people have been using AI for this purpose since the first Word editor was created. It's just an algorithm. And since then, almost nothing has changed.

Otherwise, if you put an infinite number of monkeys in a room and give them enough time, at some point one of them will accidentally pressing the keys and definitely create a masterpiece.

Question on this specifically, what is their motive/end goal? I had the pleasure of having none on ScribbleHub but I do run into them on other sites. Even though I never respond to them, I do still wonder what they want?

Oh yes. Check out some stories on Pocket FM for example - though a lot of those are MTL of original work and not fully AI generated, the overuse of certain names (Ethan, Adriana, Peter Chen) or expressions ("it was none other than..." "...brow furrowed" "in that very moment") are all tell-tale signs (though sometimes the ... ahem... creative interpretations of the AI readers can make even the best prose sound off).
Even more than "pure AI generation" you'll find situations where an author writes a scene and has AI expand it out to three, four or five 1250-word chapters, just so they can keep up with contract requirements (I've been tempted to try this on Pocket FM but have, so far, resisted the temptation)

Im so sorry but sometimes I say chef’s kiss to annoy my friends ???‍↕️

That’s horrible, why not create a story with your own characters ? Rather than using ai which lacks emotion

I find it surprising that people use ai to write stories I honestly just don’t get the point, for example i write to convey and express my imagination to people. But ai lacks imagination so I don’t get what benefits come from using ai to write a story it’s quite stupid if you think about it.

Most of the time a trying to scam you into forking over money for their “art” which is just AI slop that anyone can generate without paying real-art prices.
