So I know that NUF is the forum to Novelupdates.com right? And apparently people post their stories on there too...but how though? Is the format like the forums here? And if so.....that seems extremely awkward to post a serial in. Can someone explain?

I think there is a blog function or they just post everything in one thread. But I’m not active on NUF so I don’t know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nuf forum is basically the same as this forum. The story post there are honestly better of thought as community's makeshift scribblehub for when scribblehub didnt exist.

You make a thread for your story, The main/first post will be your summary/cover etc etc. The second post or within your first post would be a toc linking every chapter in order if you are feeling not lazy. Every post can have a prev/next link if you are feeling that you are thinking about your readers. Comments are basically posts by other users after you post something.

Technically blogs are much better place for doing this as they pretty much have the scribblehub structure but the feature was added quite a few years in and authors never bothered to use it.

I don't really understand what you said. But it sounds like its as awkward and unwieldy to post there as I assumed.

Yup here is an example of one of the, if not the longest story hosted on nuf community fiction subforum https://forum.novelupdates.com/threads/the-great-game-the-young-master-ch-240.6893/

The subforum -

The basic thread format -

It's not bad for short stories, where you can just post it in the first post. Might even be a bit easier to use than SH for those.

If we take this tread as an example for how they do it there on NUF

The rest would be chapters with ocational comments by readers.

Basically it is for those who wanted to write a story but don't want to create a blog or webpage, stories like RWBYxTheGamer fanfic The Games We Play, and just straight up dump chapters as forum posts and maybe post the prev and next links at the bottom of their posts as the comments from others can really screw up the sequencing.

Then came @Tony the great god who creates SH for writers.

As you expected, the Community Fictions on NUF are very unwieldy and clunky. Not to mention they get little to no exposure.

They were good back when Scribbly didn't exist, but nowadays they don't have much of a purpose.

If anything, it might be good for collabs or for parodies of other NUF users.
