It is often that people will talk about their life on scribblehub however the profile posts are an ineffective way to share about one’s life for one, you can’t post pictures there, and two people aren’t really going to see it.

In my opinion it is better to have people talk about their life on a story rather than a blog since the information will be more accessible.
The content in blog doesn’t necessarily have to be about x thing that happened to me recently or compalaining over this unfortunate set of wvents

But could be like a story time from one’s childhood or one’s opinion on x topic, or thing.

I don't see blogs as Genres. Sorry. Genres for actual category of an actual story.

A blog may not be any story in particular, especially from what you described it as. Blogs are more like a type of media though.

Maybe it might be best to have a genre categorized as Non-fiction genre and place blogs and other types of nonfiction in there. Then again, not sure if a blog falls into nonfiction more, since it could be that or blog about fiction too.

This forum has a blog feature. You just need to ask @Tony to get it up. Ai-chan isn't sure if it's a built-in feature or if he needs to purchase an addon, but it exists. We have it on novelupdates.

Yo Tony.

Ai-chan isn't a fan of making a new genre on the main site specializing on blogs. @LinXueLian wanted to make a non-narrative journal piece regarding the plants of his/her fictional world. Ai-chan personally thinks there's nothing's wrong with that, it's still a person excercising their creativity to create something, which is great. It's a fantastic world from the creative mind of a creator.

Ai-chan also doesn't have a problem with people writing about their personal lives. But to have a specific genre for blogging means that the site actively supports people writing about their own self on the front page of the site created for sharing original compositions. This can go very bad for authors of original stories.

We already do not have many good sites for authors to share their stories. You can actually count them on your fingers. But blogging sites, there's a whole lot of them already. If we support (instead of merely permitting) blogging here, soon this won't be a story site anymore, it will be a blogging site. People will come here to blog, instead of writing stories.

Why? Because the site is despite its setbacks, is quite helpful in giving people exposure. For an amateur author with no money or support, exposure is what they need. You can blog elsewhere, there are plenty of places that supports that.

As for not being able to post pictures on the wall, you can. Just the other day Ai-chan accidentally posted a video on @Moonpearl 's wall.

I think it's not something I'd really see in the Scribble site itself, but something more akin to NUF with blogs integrated to the forum, to be honest. Sometimes, General doesn't really cut it for some random ramblings in my honest opinion, specially the more personal kind of rambling. In that sense, I wouldn't mind and would even encourage bringing blogs to SHF.

Actually, scratch that... please don't give @AliceShiki such power here... NUF is already enough.

I agree with the others. If blogs are implemented, it's best to just have it as a section on the forum rather than as a story genre.

Ehhh.... if you want an easy solution, you can just host a blog on Tumblr and link to it from your author's profile. It'll give an option to your followers whether they want to follow you or not. I do that myself! :blob_melt:

Like @Ai-chan mentioned, journal formats are generally allowed as long as it's fictional in nature. Places that don't exist in real life, plants that don't exist in real life, meeting that super handsome guy who doesn't exist in real life.... yeah! :blob_happy:
