The honest truth is, we all have this exact same feeling, but in varying degrees. Welcome to the club.

More apropos, though ... it simply means you are as human as you were meant to be. Explore this in your writing, it can make you more confident once you start working through issues through stories and snippets of things. I've been writing already for a third of a century and have got perhaps four to five million words, just in stories alone. In worldbuilding notes and documents ... at least half again for that wordcount.

Eh ... you don't have to be great, or feel great, about your own writing -- it's a marathon, not a sprint.

... or more on point, @Cherry maybe I should tell also one of the things I myself feel the same trepidation and dismay and friction, from my own writing. I came up with writing a story on the basic plot of the main character having been ... paraplegic.

In some readers, it might be a sore subject; in others, it might be my writing gives the subject a fair treatment and exposure few fantasy world novels will face. My own fears come in when considering how loud certain opposing voices could maybe possibly get, at some future date -- all over my choosing to write an 'invalid' character ... in any sense of the word.

... so ... I write the story ... even got up to 63k words on it ... but ... terrified of actually posting it. Yeah. I know what you mean when you doubt your ability -- I doubt myself should even continue on this story.

I can relate a lot. Even after I started getting comments and stuff, I doubted everything I saw. Then I decided to publish my work on Wattpad and while the site is a bit... What I love the most is the amount of support you can get from one reader. It's really thanks to those readers who write like 10 comments per chapter that I’m more confident in my work :blob_cookie:

I’m also a new writer, and I’ve found coming up with new, refreshing ideas is incredibly difficult but when you finally get that chapter, sentence, or even word correct it feels so, so good. If you don’t feel good about yourself, feel free to take a break. Like I am doing. Which I shouldn't be doing because I have more chapters to write. Gotta go.

Good luck, have fun. If you feel you're lacking, just keep writing. Eventually, you will improve enough that you will be embarrassed at looking at your first work.

Everyone doubts their ability when they begin. My advice is to keep writing. After a while, you'll become quite skilled.
Also, I'm a new writer too, so you should probably take my advice with a grain of salt

I have a lot of issues with my own writing as well. I've found it helps a lot posting it online though, as other people who enjoy it can support you. Just gotta keep pushing forward and you improve along the way. And the folks reading can help you keep going.

I am also a new author myself, so as above, don't take my words as ironclad truth.

Why do you feel like doubting your ability?
Or are you saying you are doubting your ability?

Like, do you just want to doubt your ability, or are you actually currently doubting your ability? It's important and your statement is sort of vague.

As for help you wish, I need clarification as to what your incompetence is or even means. Like, oh noes, I'm only selling five million copies of my book a week. I'm such a loser! Failure and incompetence is subjective. How are you failing? What is the metric by which you measure competence? What have you tried in the past to do to improve? What worked? What failed?

I mean, are you looking for words of encouragement? I don't have any. I find smooth waters rarely make for fine sailors. You want me to beat into you skills that will improve your writing? Yeah. I can do that. Won't be fun. So I sort of need you to actually put some thought into your actual problem and, more importantly, what you want to achieve.
