yes. *that* novel, was a special case. At the time, I did not know that web novel sites existed.
I was also blissfully unaware of words like "futa", as well. (could have died not knowing that one, I tell you. but to each his own)
structured that way, they were novellas, I could list them all on KU.
novellas for erotica is a fairly standard length, my research told me.
as well as have one big novel out of them.
after that one and a couple others, I decided 10k was max chappie length.
and at 5k I start looking to see if I can pinch it off.
I'm not afraid to go down to 2k
all this sense and sensibility, obviously came about from getting onto my first WN site.
the problem with breaking down a 6k chapter into three 2k chaps? there's no "cliff" to the next chapter because the chapter end already had one. I'd hate to disrupt that.

I'll see what i can do to restructure "leviathan".
but I started tossing up one of my regular novels. limited sex, very accessible by trad pub pulp standards of the day.

it wasn't too long ago, I got a lecture about "punchy first chapter! action or peril! Mandatory!"
so, it got a short preface chapter, to give you something shocking about the MCs background.
this is supposed to allow for my traditional slow burn I'm known for.
guys said *if* you get the peril/punchy or action first chapter, then readers are more willing to tolerate the build up to action.
the preface was an add on, i don't hate it but not in love with it either. its subject to change if someone seemed like an expert in these matters.

Then don't disrupt the flow. If you see a problem and others are telling you to make it, listen to yourself. You are around you more often then they ever will be to become concerned over hurting somebody else's feelings on not taking their advice. :blob_salute:

?

Song of Ice and Fire chapters length are typically 4000-5000 words.

Harry Potter series is about 5500 words.

Lord of the Rings is north of 7000, with some chapters breaking 10,000 words.

Wheel of Time books is about 6000
It has been discussed ad nauseum, but here we go again. Books in print can have chapters be as long as they want, as readers can place a bookmark wherever they want. In webnovel format, where chapters are one really long page, stopping mid-chapter just isn't convenient, so writing the chapters to be bite-sized allows readers to easily read the entire chapter and mark it as read on their reading lists.

I know. its a case of I don't like reality. To get writing chops polished?
I need to be around writers and readers.
I need to be able to get feedback, and to read other's chapters
I need a place to "park" manuscripts, while getting experience with things like covers, blurbs, IDing tropes, etc
now, when I say "real novel" its not a cut. I just mean traditional paperback format.
and that's what I *want* to end up doing.
which the only game in town realistically for a newb is amazon KU
*but*, its useless unless I have web presence, readers, fans, etc. to bring/point there
the only way to get *that*, is by... hello, WN-ing
add in learning all the things traditionally authors didn;t have to worry about... editing, proofing, sequencing
like we're expected to be illustrators now, cover artists, markey analysys *and* market predictors
we also are expected to learn by doing our own marketing, publicity, everything
i'm telling you, its maddening.
still though, I enjoy the process of writing itself.
its everything *else* around that? that's the maddening part.
what's the point of learning to make a gourmet meal, if I can't entice anyone to eat it. pointless.
there's a chink in this armor somewhere though, there always is.
no enemy is invulnerable.

I like longer chapters. To me, any story with chapters consistently under 2k words are too short. I'd put my preferred word count at 4k to 5k (a 15 to 20 minute read). Even though I like longer chapters, without the ability to bookmark, there gets a point that's just too much. FYI, I got about 2/3's thru your monster 1st chapter before I had to stop and then (of course... lost my spot). It would be great if SH had bookmarks... but, since they don't, you have to work with the tools available.

wow, thanks. That's too much to ask of anyone, but I appreciate it. How was the writing quality, or subject matter. I worry about writing quality first, then if its cringe or not. If its worth the effort, I have a taskon my hands to split the sections up. When written, I didn't know web novels existed yet.
