Among many in the writing community and myself included I have noticed the tendency for an author to start another passion project despite having an ongoing series. This tendency is a severe kick in the face to your readers and the you of the past. So let’s analyze this and hypothesize ways we can prevent this from happening. Or by the very least reduce the likeliness for this to happen.
For myself when I begin a passion project, I feel a sugary rush of energy running through me. It is sweet, sugary, full of life and passion. When I come to engage my thoughts and actions into developing this story, I run like a raging freight car down into the Mariana Trench. I seamlessly engage myself into the act of creation with untroubled passions and a clear mind.
However as a result of beginning this new project I begin to forget and lose passion for my original story. Forgetting the plot, the scenes and the sort as it takes a back seat at the end of my mind. I forget and face severe resistance when I come back to my work. This is an issue as my original project was my main work, not an extra.

insert cool transition to solution
Despite the falling out in writing my original work. I can propose a few ideas that could help you in this scenario.
1. Allow yourself to engage in the creation of this story and release it a 2-3k word one shot. And if you ever wanted adapt it into a real story later.
2. Create a vow to not work on other works until you have finished your main work and to keep to your main work.
3. Allow yourself to develop the plot of this other work until you lose all passions and throw it back burner.
