Right now I’m working with a few plot device elements to create a character I can visualise in my head, but don’t have enough ideas at the moment to complete the draft. I’m finding it difficult to connect the dots because of that.

So… The idea was based on the most shounen protagonist female character I know of ‘Kiana Kaslana’. Except stripping away all the elements that made that mobile game battle unit from Honkai Impact 3rd a character… to recreate it.

I’ve got her appearance to basically look spunky and easy to understand… but I believe the inner self should never be the same as the outer self so things shouldn’t end there. There is also this plot device that is intrinsic to her entire character.

So let me get a quick rundown on her traits.

1. Her personality is undecided.
2. She has a superpowered evil side.
3. She is a clone, and not a real human.
4. Was raised by someone who took her in as a granddaughter. Learnt combat from both grandparents.
5. Has a shounen protagonist arc.

Honestly, I want to write her like she is the protagonist of her story rather than a ‘harem heroine’ that is barely touched on. It’s the fact I myself am unclear on how to write her struggles is what’s causing me to have writer’s block.

Her super-powered evil side can either be known or unknown until a reveal, but since she isn’t THE main character, I don’t want there to be secrets to her that are too crucial. Though that would depend if I had any less edgy ideas related to her.

All I can think of (in the case she knows her evil side) is making her be a “Oh no, my right arm is going berserk!” or making her brood a lot. I don’t want this to be a ‘Sasuke Uchiha’-like character that is brooding all the time. It feels too fake.

Maybe making her a delusional person who is revealed to actually be telling the truth might work well, but it kinda conflicts with her outer personality too much. One can’t be too many things at the same time… Is just how I feel.

So I need to find a simple Archetype to work on and build upon, but don’t know where to start using the traits above. Any ideas on any tropes are appreciated. I’d love to hear new takes on it.

How bout her being... Delusional?

I mean, that works with this menace.

If not delusional, have her with no inferiority complex and give her common sense.

That's all I could think of rn. I got fever, so uhh... Yeah. Good luck.

Then don't.

Write her as the usual 'harem heroine' character.

She hears the voices of the mysterious "Royal Road" in her head which constantly try to convince her to act as the "smart protagonist" usually through murdering random people to change the events that didn't even happened, or do to something irrational or suicidal for random reasons, promising it's the "effective" way forward.

This way she doesn't have to be naturally the protagonist, it's the voices that force them to act like one, which would come to her as unnatural.

She would sound like Deadpool without the cancer-infested brain.

Well u could try to put her in cliche heroine situations and as your mc tries to follow the cliche u can make her break the scenario with a clich shounen power up situation

Why?

There is also this plot device that is intrinsic to her entire character.

There's yer problem

2. She has a superpowered evil side.
Kay.

3. She is a clone, and not a real human.
If she was made, then what did her creator wNt her to be?

4. Was raised by someone who took her in as a granddaughter. Learnt combat from both grandparents.
Ugh.

Look, just have her grown in a vat. Her whole life is a vr programmed lie.

5. Has a shounen protagonist arc.
Whatever.

Honestly, I want to write her like she is the protagonist of her story rather than a ‘harem heroine’ that is barely touched on. It’s the fact I myself am unclear on how to write her struggles is what’s causing me to have writer’s block.
This is because you don't have a purpose or goal

Manchurian candidates are boring

Is this a comedy?

Lul so random.

You have it backwards. Where is she supposed to end up?

A clone created by someone with 10th grader syndrome. Her life is a lie.

Ah, that does sound interesting.
Yes!
Exactly.
What could go wrong with Deadpool being the cute anime girl of questionable age?
Wait...
Are you implying that Royal Road isn't cancer?

So question. Does her regular side have any powers or just her evil side?
I want to know if this is like a legion thing where each personality has it own unique power.

Her super powered side has less a complicated power set and more like an ‘authority’. Controls space through this power. Her normal side has a more ‘normal’ power set based on the magic system of the story. Gun-wielder who knows Gunblade Kata thanks to one grandparent being a swordsman and the other a gunner.

Normal Side is also pretty basic power wise despite that.

Looks like she might have a bit of a steampunk obsession from her clothes, despite not having the stereotype hardware - maybe she has a fascination with the aesthetic but hates machinery?
Perhaps because she has vague memories of the cloning vats and that triggers her "retreat" into her villain personna at times?

3. She is a clone, and not a real human.
What does this mean, exactly? Is she like, melting or something? Or is she cloned from non-human DNA? A clone is basically just a twin, not an entirely different species of creature.
5. Has a shounen protagonist arc.
I would assume this is related to either the clone thing or the evil side thing. Either way, she'd overcome her insecurities and fears to become stronger, or something.

But that means she needs to start out afraid and full of insecurities, right?

She says all the right lines, and does all the right things, but she never feels right about it. Either she compares herself to the 'humans' around her, and finds herself lacking, or her evil side is constantly telling her how much more she could do if she gave into darkness.

She doesn't brood. She constantly rushes into the next activity, tries to be the hero her grandparents taught her to be, because that's the only way to drown out the doubt and fear.

TVTropes suggests The Fake Cutie and Broken Bird combination of tropes, alongside Clone Angst, What Measure is a non-Human, and Cursed With Awesome. A good way to kill a few hours at least.

Thank you. Definitely gonna check out those pages for inspiration. Seem like interesting tropes.
