C&C Red Alert, some of the other titles in that franchise, but when Westwood was bought out, EA ruined yet another title.

More recently, Tempest Rising, which is basically a C&C knock-off, which was done very nicely.

YES! AGREE! That one was a mistake and a shame on the series.
My personal favourite is Zero Hour.

Same. Never played competitive, never will. But I love the lore and the base building.
