Excel Saga: I liked it the first time I watched it when I was 10. I watched it again 15 years later and horrified by everything that didn't go over my head anymore.
Wataten (aka "an angel flew down to me"): It is an anime (adaptation of a manga) literally about a college student luring little girls with cakes, cookies, pudding, and other assorted desserts. I have no idea how it managed to still seem wholesome, but that kind of storytelling talent does not come from sanity. That it seemed so charming at first makes it even creepier when you think about it.

Netflix: What? :meowsip:

People: Do you not see the issue here you dumbasses?!

Netflix: Binge watches.

Netflix: Ohh… :blob_blank:

Is how I imagine it went down.

Jokes aside, I am going to think this was before Japan raised the Age of Consent from 13 to 16. Which was only like two years ago.

Even before then, this wasn’t acceptable. And made me cautious of watching any anime, because I had a feeling they were gonna drop something like this outta the blue. :blob_facepalm:
TWO YEARS AGO? WHAT ARE WE LIVING IN? THE 1800S?
TWO YEARS AGO? WHAT ARE WE LIVING IN? THE 1800S?
Just found out that the age of consent has been 13 since the 1907....
What the hell.... No offence, but this isn't a cultural stuff or anything. It's basic human common knowledge that the younger the age, the less developed is the body. It's a kid's body! Not a fully grown adult!

I just question the absurdity that we equate morality with the laws as if they are the same thing.

Makes sense if the consent was made back in the 1900s but, it has been unchanged for the past CENTURY. That's what doesn't make sense to me because we consider Japan as one of the fastest growing country in Technology and Innovation.

Guess development does not mean one is fully mature enough to differentiate between an adult and a child... Here's a Reddit post that I found : -

It had to do with Japan’s politicians, one who came out and said something like what if he wanted to date a 13 year old or something.

Times change, with the increase in life expectancy and how the developmental process work. 16 became the rough line, with certain exceptions within 3 years from 16 if I remember right.

In short, someone who is 16 thinks differently than when they are thirteen. Their body has also developed more, and they have a better understanding.

You can say given the current era, that it is very sick to take advantage of someone who hasn’t processed much of their situation, let alone the dangers.

They are more vulnerable and more easily taken advantage of.

Japan didn’t meet up with most of the world until about two years ago.

They still have the mess of dealing with their very high suicide rate.

Knights of Sydonia ~ Not disgusting, but certainly strange. Never finished it as it had 2 or 3 seasons and could not find it again since. I think one of the female characters with a love interest turns into a giant tentacle monster that still speaks? It could have been cool if not for its bizarre moments.

I never watched that anime, when i saw the tags and synopsis on manga,i knew it was a lost course.
I thought it was funny

What is this Trumpet 2.0, who wants to date his own daughter?

The change DOES acknowledge the significant developmental differences between a 13-year-old and a 16-year-old, as older teens have more maturity and understanding.

The update DOES reflect Japan’s effort to modernize its laws and prioritize child safety, making outdated views, like a politician suggesting dating a 13-year-old, rightfully controversial.

I agree with you in terms of the development, needing to meet up for the life expectancy, but the concern isn’t just about arbitrary numbers...

It’s about protecting the youth from being manipulated or coerced by older, more experienced individuals who could take advantage of their limited understanding.

In today’s world, with increased awareness of mental and emotional development, societies have acknowledged that early teenagers lack the maturity to fully process and consent to complex situations, making legal protections necessary.

Legal protections OUGHT TO exist to prevent exploitation, as younger adolescents may not fully grasp the preventable risks.

I just wished that these politicians had some basic common sense because at this rate even a 10-year-old could run for the president if you know by what I mean by Trumpet.

Yeah, I know. Though, let’s not make it political. SH is strict on that topic. Anyway, on top of this. As I edited in, Japan has a very high suicide rate to deal with. However, 2024 was better than 2023(supposedly).

They have quite a bit of issues to deal with on the ground level.

While most countries can agree that children should be protected, unfortunately. There are still some out there that doesn’t share that sentiment, even with the knowledge we have now.

It isn’t something we can do about it, a few years ago. On the news, a girl I think the age of 10 was sold to be a wife to a man. It boils the blood, but nothing can be done about it without causing an enormous problem.

It just goes to show how truly backwards some places are.

Definitely rightfully so, I agree not to make this political.

They also have these suicide forests.... that just says a lot about the society.

Child marriage is pretty common and still prevalent in my country, despite the multiple laws made.

I am unfazed by such news which makes me feel guilty by a ton.

The fact that I have heard such stories since I have been a kid to scare me off, (is quite normalized and is very common to date) makes me even question about my morals that I have been taught.

It just that we can only spread awareness because these people will not change until or unless they keep an open-mind.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and engaging respectfully in this discussion with me. I appreciate the information you provided. I hope we can have such fruitful discussions in the future.

A pick from the absolute trenches of light novel adaptation degeneracy, Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica was too much for this anime fan's jaded eyes. It would've just been a typical trashy power fantasy ecchi harem series, save for the fact that one of its fanservice heroines is canonically ELEVEN. My tolerance completely ran out by the time they had her involved in a pee fetish scene.

At this point, I don't care about the "it's just fiction" shit, why the hell was this even a thought that crossed the author's mind?
