Hello! To anybody feeling as discouraged as I when you began writing, Especially one to a specific niche or small community, I'd like to offer you some words of encouragement.

I began my journey writing something I was truly passionate about and at first things were incredibly slow with little traction or engagement.

This community is YOUR community, We are all here to provide good and honest advice and everyone I've met has been so gracious and forgiving. I've gotten honest advice and stuck with my work and now I have a consistent small base of people who genuinely like my stories!

If you're not passionate about what you're writing, It's fine. If you were never passionate to begin with, Quit the project and think about why you're writing.

Love what you're creating and don't be chained by opinions.

Sincerely, Comatoast.

Heh. Until I found a sub-group on a gaming board that tossed around writing challenges, I kind of strove to be a niche writer myself. Kind of wanted to move into and take over a swathe of the Fantasy landscape... but now I know that you need talent and luck to do something like that, and found that I can move out of that zone and still have fun with it... well, that helped a lot.
Still waiting on the luck and hoping the talent comes... :D

Don't hope, Talent is only gained through your persistence! Don't be afraid of failure, Failure is your friend until success takes its place.

Not to be that guy (while proceeding that guy), if you need outside motivation to start your writing journey, you are cooked before you even enter the kitchen.

Like Mr. Comatoast has said, you need passion to do it, and I'd like to add, having fun while doing so. I still remember the first few days starting writing for 8 hours only to end up with maybe 3 pages that ended up being erased later simple because they were the worse thing I've ever read, but at least those hours were so fun I don't even think about it.

Now, after nearly two years of writing (with the last six months actually being meaningful, I have one thing to say: DON'T DO IT! THIS IS HELL! PURE HELL! YOU WILL DOUBT YOURSELF IN EVERY STEP OF THE WAY, YOU WILL FEEL LIKE THE MOST WORTHLESS BEING IN THE WORLD. SAY GOODBYE TO A GOODNIGHT SLEEP, THANKING THE LORD FOR ALLOWING YOUR TEARS TO LULL YOU TOWARDS THE VOID. RUN! STAY AWAY AND NEVER LOOK BACK, ITS NOT WORTH IT.

with love and care from the sanest writer/author (probably)
