At that moment it was just detrimental to stay with the one I made myself haha. Unfortunately, the new cover didn't make it before the contest ended.
My commissioned cover just came in actually. It'll take a few hours for it to be approved, I'll upload it to the forums after that.

Banning covers and tags is like banning the use of good racquets in a badminton match so that people who use sticks and fishing nets can compete.

But yeah, I can see why he suggested this. You know there's already a skewed balance to this competition, with an established reader-base, a bias towards certain genres, and the demographic of this site.

Get a judging panel. I've harped on this before and I will do so again. Letting the fickle public do the voting has proved time and time again to be """successful""". That's how Pitbull ended up in Walmart Alaska.

Not saying these results aren't great or worthy, but when there's such a similarity between the entries on pole position maybe it's safe to assume that there's a determined pattern to this that doesn't directly involve the craft of writing which, ironically, is the point of this contest.

Who the fuck knows, eh? Maybe the results would come back the same anyway. What do I know? I write furries beating the shit out of one another as a hobby.

By the way, read my shit. Yes I'm plugging it here. Yes, I'm shilling heavily. I'd stencil the link on your mother's butt plug if I could.

Yes I agree, we must silence the public. The readers do not know what is best for them!!!

This depends really on the contest.

However this is a popularity contest where the readers are a vital aspect of the whole popularity thing.

Many complained that the popular authors get a big lead. It is a POPULARITY contest. What about this common word that you don't understand? Why are you complaining when the popular authors wins in a POPULARITY contest. Seriously, it is like complaining that the beautiful women are always the winners while that the ugly ones have no chance in winning in a beauty contest, or that strong men are always the winners while the weak men has no chance in winning in a strong man contest. Like, come on.

I guess, the problem here is that they expect for quality and originality to trump popularity or pandering… in a popularity contest. Yeah… no.

Listen, if those authors didn't consistently previously publish work that attracted an audience and was popular they wouldn't have had a lead in the popularity contest. This is terrible for the authors who never had a fanbase before.

How can the authors who can't attract an audience outside of the competition be expected to attract an audience if they have to compete with authors that already attracted an audience outside of winning the competitions? Its ridiculous.

Yes, it is ridiculous, but that is the nature of popularity contests. Just go at any popularity contest and these very issue pops up. Anyone that isn't popular or can't get popular is not going to win.

I mean, it is in the very title: POPULARITY. You have to be popular to have a chance of winning. If you can't, then you lose. Simple as that.

And ways to get an audience? In SH? Well, use popular genre(s), use a waifu cover, click-bait title and descriptions, ect.. Just use anything to get a lead.

Though, if a very popular author does join, then you are out of luck. That is like having Micheal Jackson or the Beatles join in a singing competition. How can a small time singer compete against them? On the other hand, that would attract a lots of people to go see the competition:giggle:.

Okay. Where you think is the joke in your statement?

Like so what if they publish and republish the same basic (girls love, harem, echi, etc.) stories that are popular? So what? Like are you going to make your own song or sing a entirely forgotten song to join a singing contest or throw in an experimental written piece in a contest like this? That maybe awesome in a way but you have lower chance of winning, if the possibility is there at all.
also the beatles are awful so
You don't know what popularity means, do you?

I was certain crownfall was being sarcastic in their statement, but can't deny that. Anyhow, I digress.

Forgot to congratulate the winners. Grats y'all!

In some statements like saying we should silence the public, yes. In the other cases like submitting using popular story-lines and concepts to have a lead or authors with no fanbase can't compete? Don't think so.

Though, this discussion kinda soured the contest. We should be congratulating the winners instead of putting their victory in doubt.

From the looks to it for me it wasn't directed to you, but an indirect jab to someone else and just went along with you. But hey, I ain't the person their self to have the authority explain, so I'll leave it at that.

Again, congratulations to all the winners! xD

Yeah. This whole contest tread have completely soured.

Get your congratulations from people who don't believe that they should have won. Great.

I do get the jab but I'm not following the woosh thing. I mean, I thought he was making the (sarcastic) point of the banning, which I agree with. I made the statements with the sarcasm in mind. The nature of popularity contest is kinda ridiculous and these people wants to ban stuff because of this, which just makes no sense. It is a popularity contest. Whoever is more popular wins. Deal with it.

Then he said that I missed it. So, that is not what he meant? He is actually seriously in agreement with the banning?

He made is doubly sarcastic or something? He was sarcastic with his sarcasm? I really don't get it.

I congratulated them again cause I wanted to close the chapter, just so we're clear.

Anyway, if you knew that they were being sarcastic, why were you saying it to them? Cause it's easy to look like you were taking their words at face value. Like I said, it looked like to me they weren't being directed to you, but making an indirect jab at someone else and just went along with what you were saying. They were obviously making it clear that they were being sarcastic by repeating the same phrase, to make you get the clue. The fact that they said you missed it proves the point. In this case, the "miss" part refers to them mistaking you for mistaking them.

But hey, I ain't the person their self, and I could be wrong. I shouldn't be the one making this clear, so I kindly ask to be left out on this one.

Thanks for the congratulations!
No worries about souring the thread. I finished over 100k words and got to the end, which I'm personally happy about. Completing the contest was a goal I set for myself so I'm happy I was able to accomplish it. I got nothing to complain about other people's thoughts on the topic. As the old saying goes, "Haters gonna hate." :s_tongue:
But, seriously, thanks for the grats

So much salt in this thread lol. Honestly, I don't think authors take this contest as seriously as people think. At least for me, personally, I went and wrote over 100k words for my story just as part of a meme.
