I think so too, people died randomly from diseases, bandits, conflicts etc.

No, modernity has much more danger sources. Our modes of transportation and the machinery involved massive amount of forces. You can cut yourself with a chainsaw. You can die in a car accident. That was certainly not the case back then. Killing someone in a horse cart accident is way harder.

But on the other hand, we got better at minimising risks and taking precautions. So if something happens, you have way better chances of surviving.

Now, see that is exactly my point, you can be killed in an elevator, die in airplane, die from being electrocuted, die while climbing, etc. The cases are admittedly rare, but the possibilities are endless.
