image hosting is expensive and limiting avatars makes sense. just get a browser extension.

Profile posts do host images, but the process, relative to the process of uploading images to regular forums posts, is over complicated. It is an unnecessary difference.

there are only profile posts with external images (by url). Those are not hosted on the site but on whatever site they are hotlinked from. you can see by opening the image in a new tab. if the url says "scribblehub", it is local. if it says imgur, it is external.
