Did you know that d20 D&D 3.0/3.5 was open sourced?

So if you were thinking about writing a LitRPG, but wasn't quite sure what game system to use, may I recommend 3rd edition D&D. Of course, you might need some help with it. So, here's a bunch of PDFs that include compilations of all the useful rules:

And then my personal 112 Handbooks that help explain and break down almost everything from feats to weapons to spells to psionic to well... everything. I call it the Encyclopedia Vinculum Draconis. 4 years of being bored on the night shift. Some of these handbooks are thousands of pages.

The only thing I don't work on is the monsters, because the vast majority of those are copyrighted, despite being open sourced. WotC are fuckers like that. Frankly, I hate them, so anything I can do to encourage people to use the stuff they don't make money off of is music to my ears. So if you wanted to work on a LitRPG story, but didn't quite have a game system in mind, and wanted something you could fuck around with, plus a color coded guide to some of the more broken rules, may I recommend the EVD.

Or if you just wanted to play D&D, but don't want to give any money to those backstabbing bigoted monsters at WotC, screw 5th and go with 3rd. It was better in every way and hey, It's open sourced, so you know...

FREE.

(and yes, used to work with them. I get to call them backstabbing bigoted monsters for a reason.)

Eh, the random chance factor is good for a game, but terrible for a story.
