Hello, I am the author of Pet Store In Another World (https://www.scribblehub.com/series/722410/pet-store-in-another-world/). Thanks for letting me know !

I sent a report ticket, I'm now waiting for Amazon's response. I gave them 48h to remove this from their platform, or I will start legal action for copyright infringement.

In the meantime, I'll check if my other novel hasn't been plagiarized too.

Once again, thanks to all the kind souls who sent me a message ! I wouldn't have known if it wasn't for you guys. Thank you. ?
Good luck! I hope Amazon starts checking out the plagiarist too.

Today, I found my own story for sale on amazon, even though I did not put it there. I managed to take it down

This is Amazon's response that I just received :

Hello,
We received the information you submitted for the following book(s):
B0CKTW56XM
We need some additional time to review everything. We'll be in touch within 5 business days. We appreciate your patience.
Thanks for using Amazon KDP.

Did you get the same ? Or should I take the next step ? 8h vs 5days seems like a lot

Not the same, no. Need to wait and see how things go. Nothing too troublesome I think

What did you send them when you made the report, and what did they answer ? Maybe I need to make another report.

A link to my story on Royal Road and told them that I was the Original Author. They said it would 1-2 days to check and later that day I got email that it got removed.

No. Name is not Darlene.

However, I have never had so much of a pain in the ass to get a sample of the damn work.
It takes a couple clicks. I found a lot more potentially stolen works. Someone once mentioned searching amazon for the genres that your story has is a good way to see if it is pirated. Though as benson said they are being less obvious with it now.

For anyone who got his or her novel stolen :

- report it asap to Amazon. Benson explained the steps to follow here :

Below the synopsis, page count and language etc, there will be this: Report incorrect product information. Click on that.

Then a window opens where it asks for details, pick: This product or content is illegal, unsafe or suspicious.

Then it asks for the issue, pick: It uses my intellectual property without my permission.

Then this appears: To report infringement issues, go to Public Notice Form.

You can click on 'Public Notice Form'. A new site will load. Click on Report Infringement in the top right corner, right beside the amazon logo. Scroll down after clicking on it and click on Start Report. Have the URL of the product ready or just write down the name of the product in question. Then just fill out the field about the issue and if possible provide a link to SH or RR or other sites, so amazon can check if you really are the author.

You will have to write down your name and other basic contact information. Important: Your real name, email and phone number will only be seen by Amazon, not the other party.

They will ask you for a second email which the other party (the person stealing your stuff) will get in case they want to contact you. You also do not need to give them your real name.

- gather all the links to the stolen novels and send a DMCA takedown notice to google : https://support.google.com/legal/answer/3110420?visit_id=638349830794598836-164145888&rd=1

- if you have a lawyer, I would recommend you contact him asap so he can advise you on what to do in your situation, as the legal procedures change greatly depending on the country you're living in. I explained everything in more details in this post, but here's a short tl;dr of what my lawyer said :

If I decide to take legal action, I can get a court order within three months that would allow me to get the scammer's banking information from Amazon. This same court order would also allow me to require the scammer's personal info from whatever payment service he used to cash in the money he got from Amazon (PayPal, Skrill, etc.). That's the good news.

Now, the bad news. My lawyer also told me that, while it was my right to take legal action, the result would depend entirely on the country the scammer comes from. For example, if he's scamming people from a small village deep within a 3rd world country, there's nothing I (nor the justice system as a whole) can do. So in the end, taking legal action would have no other effect than potentially scaring him away from my novel, showing him that I won't let him do whatever he pleases with my work.

So, to make it short, it would be a lot of time and money spent for little result. You have to judge whether the copyright of your novel is worth it, or not. If your novel brings you a lot of money and you're making a living from it, you should definitely consider the legal route.

It's not the case for me, but I still asked my lawyer to prepare the necessary procedures. I'm waiting to see whether I take it to court or not.

Tbh I don't even care about the money at this point, I just want to put a name and a visage on the piece of sht who stole my novel. But that's just me. From an external point of view, I'm just being stubborn. I'm just an amateur author who writes as a hobby, anyone would say that it's not worth wasting money on legal fees for a small web novel I'm writing during my free time, and the 'logical' part of me agrees with that.

- lastly, you can try to make things harder for scammers to steal your work. Hide sentences unrelated to your story within each chapter, make your writing style harder to be processed by paraphrasing AIs, be sure to include your contact info in the synopsis, etc. That's what I'll do from now on.

Just a musing of mine but that screenshot of the "Kindle Unlimited", "subscribers read for free" just stuck to my mind.
I wonder how much Amazon makes money from these stolen novels, which might or might not be sold, but are read by subscribers of their service?

Wtf... Out of all of my creation, they didn't pick my novel! Joke aside, I need to sent a ticket of putting it down. Stealing an original novel is a crime.
